tartaric, oxalic and sodium acid sulphate solutions on mild steel, stainless
steel, copper and brass during industrial cleaning and descaling operations.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation Remove the source of contamination or move the victim to fresh air. If
breathing is difficult, ensure airways are clear and have qualified person give
oxygen through a face mask. If symptoms develop, seek medical attention.
Ingestion If swallowed, give 2 glasses of water to drink. IMMEDIATELY call a physician.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Skin Wash affected skin areas thoroughly with soap and water. Remove and wash
contaminated clothing thoroughly. DO NOT take clothing home to be
laundered. Discard contaminated shoes, belts and other articles made of
leather. Get prompt medical attention.
Eye Contact IMMEDIATELY flush eye(s) copious amount of water for approximately 15
minutes holding eyelid(s) open. Take care not to rinse contaminated water
into the non-affected eye. Seek immediate medical attention.
Advice to Doctor Treat symptomatically based on individual reactions of patient and judgement
of doctor.

treatment and disposal may be subject to federal, state or local laws and

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Safe Handling Use only in well-ventilated area. Avoid inhalation of dust, and skin or eye
contact.
Safe Storage Keep in a cool dry place (0 to 30 °C) out of direct sunlight and moisture. Store
away from alkalis, water and other incompatible materials.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

National Exposure No exposure standard has been established for this product by ASCC. Use
Standards local exhaust if misting occurs. Natural ventilation is adequate in the absence
of mists. The measures appropriate for a particular worksite depend on how
this material is used and on the extent of exposure. Use this general
information to help develop specific control measures. Ensure that control
systems are properly designed and maintained and comply with occupational,
environmental, fire, and other applicable regulations.

Engineering Controls This substance is harmful and should be used with a local exhaust ventilation
system, drawing dust away from workers’ breathing zone. If local exhaust is
used, ensure sufficient air is replaced to compensate the air that has been
removed. Refer to AS/NZS 2430.3.1:1997: Classification of hazardous areas –
Examples of area classification – General.
Respiratory Protection If engineering controls are not effective in controlling airborne exposure, then
a half face piece respirator with a replaceable organic vapour filter should be
used. Reference should be made to Australian Standards AS/NZS 1715,
Selection, Use and Maintenance of Respiratory Protective Devices; and
AS/NZS 1716, Respiratory Protective Devices, in order to make any necessary
changes for individual circumstances.
Eye Protection Safety glasses or goggles should be worn as described in Australian Standard
AS/ANZ 1337, Eye Protectors for Industrial Applications.
Hand Protection Butyl, neoprene or nitrile gloves are recommended when using this product.
Body Protection Suitable workwear should be worn to protect personal clothing. When large
quantities are handled, the use of plastic aprons and rubber boots is
recommended.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

Chemical Stability Stable under normal ambient.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Toxicology Information The product contains crystalline silica.


Inhalation Product is irritant to the respiratory tract. Symptoms include coughing and
breathing difficulty.
Ingestion Ingestion of large amounts may irritate the gastric tract causing nausea and
vomiting. When ingested can swell several times in volume and can produce
intestinal obstruction.
Skin May cause mechanical irritation resulting in redness, itching and pain. May
cause sensitisation in some individuals.
Eye May cause mechanical irritation. May result in mild abrasion.
Chronic Health Effects Studies on rodents have suggested that an ingredient in this product, when
fed at high levels in diet, may have cancer causing potential.
