Public warned vs colorum notaries

THE Office of the Clerk of court warned the public to be wary in subscribing to unregistered
notary public, as it discredits and invalidates the document they need for government
transactions.

Head of OCC lawyer Francis Campaner, in a media interview Wednesday morning, said
their office recorded a number of clients who complained of fake signatures and some even
had notary service of deceased lawyers.

Campaner said this is after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) last year made a directive
for OCC to check the legality of the notary of documents required by the agency to declare
ownership of vehicles.

Campaner said that among documents needed by LTO is the deed of sale for the transfer of
ownership of vehicles.

"If they want to transfer ownership of vehicles, they must go to legitimate lawyers,"
Campaner said.

Campaner added that their office have the official listing of lawyers who have been given
authority by Executive Judge Carpio.

Campaner said that the public must know that not all lawyers have the commission to give
notary services, and they should not easily believe on those who make money out of a
lawyer's name.

Campaner also said that people should think twice on barkers.

The public will know if the notary service is legal when they will not be asked to sign for
notarial register which will form part of the reports they ask from notary lawyers monthly.
