Exam Requirements
Before transferring to Nevada State College, I must pass the Praxis Core Exam. Passing
the exam will lift a huge weight off my shoulders before entering the bachelor program. When
entering the program the coursework will be hard. It will be much easier on myself if I take the
test prior to entering NSC. The passing score for reading in the Praxis Core exam is 156. The
writing portion passing grade is 162. Finally you must pass the math section of the Praxis Core
exam with the minimum score of 150. When taking the exam, I hope to pass it with one try.
Exam Preparation
In preparing for the Praxis Core exam, I did not prepare that well. I did read about the
exam and how it was going to be administrated, but I did not really pay close attention. As I was
doing the practice questions, I was guessing on some of them and not reading them completely. I
think it was kind of hard to focus knowing that it was the practice questions before the actual
exam. Another way I tried preparing myself is that I looked back to my notebooks I have from
previous math classes and tried studying math from my notes. Even though I tried to study for
Exam Results
The first test I took was reading. The score I got was 39%, which means I need to
drastically improve my reading skills. But, the reason I got such a low score is I feel like I was
not as focused as I should have been. Next, I took math, and scored a 68%, meaning I need to
improve a little more to pass the Praxis Core math section. Lastly, I took writing and got a score
of 60%, I need improvement in order to pass the writing section of Praxis Core exam.
Now knowing the scores I could have potentially received if I were to take the Praxis
Core exam I think it is time to focus on preparing myself better. In preparing for these exams, I
plan on taking the Praxis Core exam review at the College of Southern Nevada before I transfer
to NSC. I also plan to take advantage of any tutoring they have there. For the days where I am
not available to reach any tutoring, I plan to look up practice problems online or focus on math
subjects I can learn from on Khan Academy. If for whatever reason I am not able to find any
resources online, I will most likely find a book to checkout at the CSN Library, or any public
library as long as it helps me learn to improve myself for the Praxis Core Exam.
