Eligibility Requirements
An applicant must have a general weighted average (GWA) of 2.25 or better from her/his
Bachelor’s degree earned from U.P., or 2.0 or better if the degree was earned from another
institution of higher learning. If s/he does not have a background in communication, s/he will be
required to enroll in Comm 1340 and Comm 201 before taking up major courses.
An average of 2.0 or better from studies in Bachelor’s degree is required of the applicant. S/he
must be a holder of Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting or a related discipline, or (and?) at least
one (1) year of work experience in Broadcasting. If s/he does not have background in
broadcasting, s/he is required to take graduate courses BC 201 and BC 203 prior to enrollment in
major courses. However, cognates or electives together may taken together with the
aforementioned required subjects.
An applicant to the program must have an average of 2.25 or better in her/his studies for
Bachelor’s degree. If s/he does not have background in film, s/he is required to take
undergraduate courses Film 100 (Introduction to Film), Film 102 (History of Philippine Cinema),
Film 110 (Basic Photography), and Film 112 (Language and Grammar of Film) prior to
enrollment in major courses. However, one or more of these undergraduate courses may be
waived if s/he has both practical experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as
Communication.
Aside from the abovementioned requirements, an applicant must exemplify a high degree of
accomplishment in the desired field of study; pass a series of in-depth interviews conducted by a
distinguished faculty panel; and pass a written admission examination to be administered by a
faculty committee from each program.

Foreign applicants who obtained a Master’s degree abroad must present proof of passing the
standard Test of English as Foreign Language TOEFL with a minimum score of 500 or 250 in
the computer-based TOEFL.

An applicant to the doctoral program must have a Master’s degree from a recognized institution
of higher learning. A GWA (General Weighted Average) of 2.0 or higher in Master’s studies is
required.
The applicant must exemplify a very high degree of accomplishment in the desired field of
study; pass a series of in-depth interviews to be conducted by a distinguished panel of Ph.D.
faculty of the College; and pass a written admission examination to be administered by a Ph.D.
faculty committee to be constituted by the Dean.

Language Requirements
An applicant must present a proof of proficiency in English and/or Filipino. However, if the
College’s department/institute where the program is administered so requires, an applicant must
present proof of proficiency in both English and Filipino.
A foreign applicant who obtained a Master’s degree abroad must present proof of passing the

An applicant who is admitted to the Ph.D. program and whose Master’s Degree was not received
from the College is required to take the courses Comm 240 and Comm Res 201 prior to
enrollment in major courses. A student who does not have background in Communication is
likewise required to take the aforementioned pre-requisite courses.
A foreign applicant who is admitted to the Ph.D. program and who obtained their Master’s
degree abroad is required to take six (6) units of Filipino language courses during his/her first
year of enrollment. Otherwise, s/he must show proof of proficiency in the Filipino language.
