Machine Nozzle Gap Filter MSF

Increase productivity by reducing machine down time

Melt contaminated by metallic, inorganic particles and / or foreign plastic etc.,

can lead to time consuming and costly situations that require removal of the
machine nozzle, or in extreme cases the complete disassembly of a hot runner
system, to clean out a blockage.

Ring Gap Filter Nozzles, intended for injection moulding machines, are
available in four sizes with flow channel diameters of 5, 6, 10 and 14mm. In
choosing the correct gap size you have to consider the nozzle / hot runner gate
size in the mould as well as the product shot weight (see table).

Ring Gap Filters offer the following decisive advantages:

• Gentle filtration of the melt

• Easy cleaning
• Low pressure loss
• Large total flow area
• The filter element and nozzle tip are replaceable
If pressure loss increases during moulding, the filter has to be cleaned or the gap size increased - which can
be done by circular grinding. For many types of plastics the filter also has a positive after-mixing-effect.

Operating principle of the Ring Gap Filter

1. Contaminated melt enters the gap filter housing from the

machine barrel.

2. Inflow openings guide the melt into the inflow channels.

3. Filter element inflow channels.

4. Melt transition passes over the support ribs...

5. ..into the melt filter element outflow channels.

6. Filtration takes place in the gap between the support ribs

and the inner wall of the Nozzle housing.

7. The filtered melt leaves the filter element through openings

in the outflow channels and enters the mould and / or hot
runner system.

8. Outflow opening on the mould side.

9. Outflow channels leading to the outflow opening.
