Reflection
When I began this assessment, I felt wholly overwhelmed by the amount of paperwork
that was needed, as well as, I was struggling to understand how each assessment was to be not
only given but also assessed. I feared the unknown and believed the project would be extremely
difficult. After taking a day to simply print everything out and go over all the different pieces as
well as having time in class to have any questions I had answered I felt overall more confident
with myself. I made a few beginner errors and although I may not have done the assessments
exactly the correct way, I am overall more confident in my ability to approach literacy
assessments. I have less fear about using them within the classroom and have overall been able
to see the usefulness that using a wide variety of literacy assessments within the classroom can
bring. When giving the assessments, I attempted to make the experience as least stressful and
taxing on the chosen student as possible, something I would do again in the future. With the
student relaxed and not fearing making mistakes, they were able to complete the assessments
with what I feel to be better results than had they been worried about the effect the assessment
academic objectives of standards three, four, and six in regards to my placement within a first-
grade classroom. In correlation with standard three, I was able to practice using assessments and
was able to use them to better help myself understand the goals and benefits of assessment.
Looking to standard four, this assessment, it also allowed me to reflect on my own practice with
the assessments in order to help promote a better outcome for each child in my future classroom.
Finally, in connection with standard six, practicing literacy assessment allowed me to collaborate
not only with my classmates but to also have discussion with my placement teacher about

practice.
