Yamaha Music is a Multinational Corporation (MNC) that is very well known for their

musical instruments and music school. Yamaha being a diverse business also do businesses

that are related to audio products, music software, and motorcycles. Yamaha is known globally

and has outlets in more than 40 countries, stretching across 6 continents. A company like

Yamaha must have taken many years to build up their reputation, and expand across the globe

to become known globally. Hence, in this final project, we as the Regional Director of Yamaha

Music for the Far East will be looking into the retail and music school operations particularly

in Malaysia and Singapore.

INTRODUCTION

Music is the art of expressing ideas and emotions in significant sound forms by using

the elements of rhythm, melody and harmony through voices, instruments, or both. Thus, music

is an important component for all people to influence in their lives. The role that music plays

in our lives is more than significant. Due to biological or evolutionary reasons, people have

assigned certain meaning to music and continue using it as a powerful instrument of influence

and a tool for learning and development. This reminds of the fact that music indeed is important

because music can also stimulate the mind. There are many things in music, to which one can

listen and bring attention. One can be mindful of the melodies or themes, the harmony, the

driving or relaxed rhythms, the color of the sounds, the activity of a piece, how the sounds are

produced, or how they all relate to one another.

SECTION A

The Yamaha brand trademark, YAMAHA, comes from the name of the founder

Torakusu Yamaha who established the production of Western musical instruments in Japan.
Born to a family of a Kishu Tokugawa (today's Wakayama Prefecture) clansman, Torakusu

was enthralled by Western science and technology from early on. Enraptured by the watches

that were gaining popularity in Osaka at the time, he took up watchmaking, studying business

along the way. Over time, Torakusu began repairing medical equipment and was invited to

visit a hospital in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture.

Yamaha Music Foundation had started since 1954 where the begins of music classes

program which known as precursors of Yamaha Music School. They reinvented the name of

their program periodically to the Yamaha Organ School and then renamed again to the Yamaha

Music School. On the 1966, the Yamaha Music Foundation (YMF) had established and Genichi

Kawakami had becomes the 1st President of the Yamaha Music Foundation. The president of

the Yamaha Music Foundation next were in charge by the 2nd president Hideto Eguchi started

on 1995 and n 2002 the title were hold by Shoji Ito.

Yamaha has widely broaden their location through local and international network and

services throughout the world. Yamaha begins their program of music classes which precursors

of Yamaha Music School in Japan during 1954. Later in 1964, Yamaha established their first

overseas Yamaha Music School in the United States. In 1966, Yamaha Music Schools broaden

their network in Mexico, Canada and Thailand. After a year, Yamaha Music School opens in

Germany in 1967. Afterwards, Yamaha Music School opens in Asia “lion city” country called

Singapore in 1968. Later on, Yamaha Music School opens in Taiwan in 1969. Next, Yamaha

Music Schools lauch in the Netherlands, Norway, Australia, and the Philippines and also,

Music Foundation established in Australia during 1970. Later in 1971, Yamaha Music Schools

incorporate in Italy, Hong Kong, and Austria Music Foundation and Yamaha Music School

established in Indonesia. In 1973, Yamaha Music Schools open in Switzerland, Luxembourg,

France, Spain, Sweden, New Zealand, and Brazil. After a year, Yamaha Music School

officially broaden their network in Malaysia. During 1976, Yamaha Music Schools incorporate
in Venezuela and UK. In 1976, Yamaha Music School incorporate in Chile and opens in

Argentina during 1978. Later on, Yamaha Music School opens in Panama and Peru in 1982.

After a year, Yamaha Music Schools open in Greece and Costa Rica in 1982 and continue to

develop in Uruguay and Bolivia in 1989. During the 90s, Yamaha Music School opens in

Lithuania and Poland and established their network in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in

1995. Subsequently in 1996, Yamaha Music School develop in Columbia and open in Vietnam

during 1998. During 2000, Yamaha Music School launch in Paraguay and continued their

journey to Korea in 2004 and China in 2005. After awhile, they launch in Hungary during 2007

and Latvia in 2008. Apparently, they established Yamaha Music School opens in Dubai, the

U.A.E. during 2009.

The Yamaha Grade Examination System was started in 1967 for the purpose of

enabling everyone who is learning music to improve their musical skills in a well-planned

manner while verifying their overall ability. Yamaha Grade Examinations help teachers and

music learners to confirm their musical abilities and encourage them to acquire all-around

musical abilities so that they can enjoy creating and performing music. The Grade Examination

System broadly targets two groups which are students and teachers. Students grades are used

as an objective assessment of the progress being made in learning music, while the teacher

grades certify the performance ability as well as overall musical knowledge needed to provide

music instruction. The Yamaha Grade Examination System offers Performance Grades for

Piano, Electone, Classical Guitar and Drums, and also Fundamental Grade. They are classified

into 2 categories which the first is Student Grades (10-6) and Teacher Grades (5-3). They also

provide Students Grades for keyboard beginners (13-11) and Fundamental Skills Survey for

Junior Music Course students. The system is designed to examine performance abilities and

general music knowledge, both of which are necessary for enjoying music, teaching music

fundamentals and playing professionally.

 Yamaha Music Foundation has provide and E-Book which help the public to know

about the institution. Established in 1966, the main purpose of the establishment is to explore

fundamental issues of educational activities pertaining to music that serve as a basis for

cultivating a rich sensitivity in toddler, young children, youths and adults, to pursue the

popularization of music and contribute widely to the promotion of social education, and

endeavour to improve musical culture in Japan and other countries. The E-book also provide

the corporation overview and the activities of Yamaha which include Music Education

Activities, Music Research Activities and Music Support Activities.

In terms of Music Education Activities, the e-book has provide an information about

the Junior Original Concert, Yamaha Highlight Concert, Yamaha Master Class (Yamaha Music

Academy) Yamaha Gala Concert, Yamaha Music Lessons for Adults and Youthful Pop Music.

The e-book also provide information of the training of teacher which include training of

musical constructor which include teaching materials development and teaching methods

research and Yamaha grade examination system. Yamaha also establish the further diffuse

Electone and piano music which include Yamaha Electone Concours (YESC), publishing

electone scores and magazines and electone players. Yamaha also diffies Yamaha Junior Piano

Competition (YJPC). PSTA (piano-study teacher;s association) and Yamaha Piano Concert

Grade.In terms of Yamaha Music Research Activities , the e-book has provide na information

about the collaborations with research institution and Electronic Musical Instrument Education

Society in Japan. In addition, it also provide On-Ken Scope website that was opened to

introduce a variety of information on research related to music. In terms of Music Support

Activities, the e-book has provide an information about Yamaha Music support system which

include music scholarship support and research activities support.

“Yamaha Music Foundation” is the official name this foundation. In 1956, the program

was originally named as ‘Yamaha Organ School’. Afterwards, in 1959, Yamaha Organ School

renamed to ‘Yamaha Music School’ until present. The official headquarters address are located

at 3-24-22, Shimo-meguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 153-8666. Meanwhile, the official website of

Yamaha Music Foundation are http://www.yamaha-mf.or.jp/. The date of establishment is on

August 29, 1966 and gaining a total assets of 3,500 million Japanese Yen. The administration

include the number of staff of 260 people involve. The official board members including the

President of Yamaha Music Foundation, Takuya Nakata. Afterward, the Managing Directors

is Masato Oike and the Director namely Sakiko Nagaiguchi. The official Board of Directors
including Yasuyoshi Karasawa, Miyuki Nakajima, Seiichi Yamaguchi and the Auditors are

Takeshi Shimada and Masahito Hosoi.

product on their website to list out the product that they sell to acknowledge their customer

about the information of the product. In addition, there are differences and additional of musical

instrument compared to Yamaha Music Singapore.

Yamaha has provide an excellence music education to people who wanted to pursue

music. Every child, woman and man has an innate musical ability. This latent potential can be

developed and nurtured for healthier and more enriching lifestyles. Research shows that a good

music education stimulates creativity, builds confidence and enhances a child's all-round

development. As adults they enjoy enhanced social recognition because of their ability to listen,

read, play and express their feelings through music.

For more than 50 years Yamaha has been developing teaching courses for lessons at

music schools for young and old alike. These teaching programmes are operated worldwide in
the Yamaha Music Schools. The Yamaha Music Foundation conducts consisting music

education through courses designed for a broad range of students, including children, youths

and adults. Firstly, the have provide Music Fantasy specialise for 2 years old children and

Music Wonderland for 3 to 3 years 11 months old. In addition, Junior Music Course (JMC) is

for 4 to 5 years 11 months old and Junior Extension Course (JXC) is for JMC graduates. Other

than that, Junior Ensemble Course (JNC) is for JXC graduates and Advanced Ensemble Course

is for JNC graduates. Next, Junior Special Advanced course is for JMC graduates and Special

Advanced Course. After that, a Young Musicians Program is specialise for 6 to 8 years old

children and Teenagers & Adults Program is for 9 years old & above & adults. Last but not

least, Yamaha Piano Course (YPC) is specialise for 6 years old and above.

Yamaha Academy of Arts & Music, under its parent company Yamaha Music (M) Sdn

Bhd, was established in 1996 to provide a education and professional skill that prepares

students in developing their musical skills, gaining valuable knowledge and leveraging on

resources, which will enable them to contribute significantly in every sphere of the music

industry. Recognized by the Ministry of Education, the Academy provides advanced music

education, leading to music diplomas and degrees. Their vision is to be a leader in providing a

holistic education for the music industry and enriching lives through the joy of music.

Meanwhile, their mission is to achieve regional recognition as a centre for education

excellence. Other than that, students are educated broadly in chosen discipline and also living

attributes and values by a dedicated faculty and contribute well to society. In addition, their

target is to achieve recognition as a leader in the performing arts and foster close relations with

other educational institutions both local and internationally. Thus, their aim is to provide music

an education and professional music skill that prepares students to develop the musical skills,

knowledge, understanding, and resources which will equip them to contribute significantly in

their musical career.

 According to Yamaha Music Malaysia websites, they did not provide any information

of the teacher recruitment to the public. Based on my opinion, they may not provide the

information about the teacher recruitment to encourage the public to apply the teacher position

to their nearest branches as they provide the requirement of teacher on the flyers and leaflet.

Yamaha has provided the latest news and updates to the community and people to share

their information. Their latest update is important for a number of reasons within a society.

Mainly to inform the public about events that are around them and may affect them. Often news

is for entertainment purposes too is to provide a distraction of information about other places

people are unable to get to or have little influence over. This will encourage people to get

connected. By sharing their latest news, it is important as a social gathering space too, hence

newspapers either online or physical place an emphasis on news. Where there are a lot of people

gathered there is an opportunity to advertise. This advertising sometimes can cause a conflict

of interest in the way news is reported.

One of their latest event is the Legendary Wisseloord Studio Hosts RIVAGE Mixing

Masterclass. The success of Yamaha’s RIVAGE PM7 digital mixing system means that sound

engineers throughout Europe are keener than ever to discover more about the RIVAGE system.

At the end of July, 50 Dutch engineers got the opportunity to enjoy a demonstration at

Hilversum’s legendary Wisseloord Studio. Likened to ‘the Dutch Abbey Road’, Wisseloord

Studio is a world famous recording facility where albums by many of the world’s leading rock

and pop artists have been made. These have included Afrojack, Chris Brown, Elton John, Foo

Fighters, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Steve Aoki, Sting, U2 and many more.

On 30th July, attendees were welcomed to Wisseloord with a tour of the studio

complex, including its renowned mastering room, conducted by the studios’ Chief Creative

Officer Malik Berrabah. This was followed by an introduction to the RIVAGE PM7 system in

Studio 2, conducted by Yamaha’s Ruben van der Goor and Jan Prins.

All were then invited through to Studio 1, where Jamiroquai Front of House engineer

Rick Pope was waiting with a RIVAGE PM10 system and four musicians from the band -

Derrick McKenzie (drums), Ernie McKone (bass), Nathan Williams (keyboards) and Hazel

Fernandes (vocals). The band played a number of songs, mixed by Rick on the RIVAGE PM10

via a Nexo M10 PA system, plus 45N12 monitors.

In between songs Rick and Ruben conducted question and answer sessions, with Rick

explaining how he mixes Jamiroquai on the PM10 system and revealed his mixing tricks and

tips to the visiting engineers. After the live session, the attendees were invited to the studio bar,
where conversations about the many benefits of the RIVAGE family of consoles continued late

into the night.

Besides advertisement, Yamaha also had a cooperation with a lot of popular artists as

another initiative to promote their brand. They do provide instruments for the artist to perform,

also cooperate on developing the new type of instruments. The SVC110 (electric cello) was

created in cooperation with some of the world’s greatest cellists. One of them is the 2CELLOS,

Young Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser. They had achieved sensational success

by taking the cello to a new level and breaking the boundaries between different genres of

music. Their unique cello version of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal took the world by

storm. Within only a week, this YouTube video became a huge viral sensation leading to a

record deal with Sony Masterworks and an invitation to join Elton John on his worldwide tour.

Children, Pop Rock Music Courses and Music Courses for Adults.

Music education for children contains of 11 different level that appropriate for different

level of ages. The first level is for the children of 2-year-olds which the course known as Apple

Course. Next, Music Wonderland Course is for 3-year-olds and Yamaha Junior Course is for

4 to 5-year-olds. The next higher level is for the aged of 6 and above which the course known

as Yamaha Piano Course. Besides, for the age of 6 to 8-years-olds have 2 different courses

which are Piano Course for Children and also Junior Electone Course. While for the aged of

10 and above have a course which known as Electone Study Course. Meanwhile, for the age 7

competing with ABRSM & Trinity College. Hence, the education are challenging because the

market has provide various education globally to the people.

Budget and funding considerations.

Budgeting is the process of creating a plan to spend our money. This spending plan is

called a budget. Creating this spending plan allows us to determine in advance whether we will

have enough money to do the things we need to do or would like to do. Since budgeting allows

us to create a spending plan for our money, it ensures that we will always have enough money

for the things we need and the things that are important to us. Following a budget or spending

plan will also keep us out of debt or help us work our way out of debt if we are currently in

debt.
 It is important to have a good knowledge of budgeting principles that can make the

difference in the financial health of the organisation. Failure to engage in sound budgeting

processes would rank as one of the main reasons why companies and organisations fail. The

first principal that we should hold on is be conservative and not optimistic. Next, we also have

to emphasize on the team work and consultation. Besides, we should work on the budgeting

has found that Yamaha Music Malaysia has a strength in Malaysia Yamaha Academic Music

that were connected with local universities. Hence, the students are able to further their

Bachelor Music at local universities once they completed their Diploma through the Malaysia

Yamaha Academic Music. In addition, Yamaha Music Singapore may improve their academy

by establishing the Grade Examination as what Malaysia has provided. This is to encourage

their students to further their music studies to their local and international universities and

perhaps to link their education with Malaysia education system. Other than that, both Malaysia

and Singapore may improve their website in terms of providing teacher recruitment to help
