GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF

B.Tech. (Electrical Engineering) PROJECT

( At the end of 8th semester)

OBJECTIVE:

A Project Report is a documentation of student’s project work—a record of the actual work done
by the student. It provides information about student’s research work to the future researchers/
application of theory. The Dept. is committed to preserve a proper copy of the student’s report
for archiving and cataloging it in the Departmental Library so as to make it available to others for
academic purpose.

FEATURES:

1. The project report shall be typed or printed in British English, font ‘Arial’ on A4 size
paper, on one side only with line spacing 1.5 lines, with left margin 1.3″, right margin 0.7″, top
margin 0.8″ and bottom margin as 0.9″.
2. The project work involving design/fabrication/testing/computer simulation/case studies,
etc. should be augmented with creativity, innovation and ingenuity & must be characterized by
demonstration of known facts with new innovative ideas brought forward. The literary
presentation of the report should be of a high standard i.e. concise, laid out logically & in proper
sequence, thoroughly checked by the candidate as well as his guide / supervisor so as to be
free from all errors (technical, grammatical, typographical, etc.) and referenced properly.
3. The main body text of the project report may be in size-11 point and justified (not aligned
left, but aligned on both sides). The text in Tables, if difficult to accommodate, may be put in
smaller font (down upto 9) or even Arial Narrow font type may be used.
4. The CHAPTER-NO. (e.g., CHAPTER-1) specification line may be in size-22 point and
aligned right, all capitals. The CHAPTER TITLE (all capitals) may be in size-20 point and
centered, with one blank line (11 point) left before it and two lines (11 point, each) left after this
line. The main section headings shall be uniformly in size-16 point without underlining and
enumerated as, for example 1.1, with chapter number followed with one dot and then the serial
number of section, these be aligned left with no further text on this line, except the section
heading. One line is to be left blank before and after the main section heading. The secondary
section headings shall be uniformly in size-14 point without underlining and numbered as, for
example 1.1.1, with no further text on this line. The tertiary section headings shall be uniformly
in size-12 point without underlining but bold and in italics with a colon terminator (:), followed
with one character space and text on the same line. Further sub-headings may be in size-12

1
point with underlining but neither bold nor in italics, with a colon terminator (:), followed with one
character space and text on the same line.
5. The Tab position may be kept as 0.5″ for all new paragraphs. No line may be left blank
before or after a paragraph.
6. All pages, figures, tables, & equations should be numbered consecutively. All figures &
tables should be referred to in the text in the order of their appearance. Figures & tables be
placed as close as possible to their place of reference. Equation nos. may be put in braces in
the form (3.5), (5.26), etc., i.e., chapter no. followed with a period & then the no. of the equation.
Equation nos. should be aligned right, although the equations may either be centered or aligned
left but with a tab. All tables may be made with grid. All Figures & Tables may be centered.
7. The report shall be bound in card sheet paper of cover page with laminated hard binding
(22 cm x 30 cm) in red colour. The name of all the candidates, degree (specifying the
specialization), year of submission, name of the university including the college name shall be
printed in golden on the cover. A specimen cover page is attached.
8. Every project group will be required to prepare at least three (four, if two guides are
guiding the project) hard copies of their project report. Out of these, one copy shall be kept for
departmental record and one/ two copy (copies) shall be for the supervisor(s). A copy of the
Project report has to be given to the external examiner.
9. In the project report, the title page should be given first, then the Declaration by the
candidate and the Certificate by the supervisor(s) in sequence, followed by an abstract of the
project (not exceeding 1500 words & preferably one page only). This should be followed by the
acknowledgement (which should be duly signed by the candidates), list of figures/list of tables,
notation / nomenclature, and contents. The pages (up to the contents pages, but leaving the title
page) should be paged at the bottom (page no. be centered) in small case Roman numbers,
such as (i), (ii), (iii), (iv), ... . All subsequent pages may be numbered as 1, 2, 3, ... .
In the body of the text, a reference should be cited by a number in parenthesis, for instance, [3]
and multiple references may be cited as [13-17], [22], [43], etc.
10. The references should be listed in the REFERENCES section at the end of the Project
report in more or less the same order as they are referred to in the text, giving:
a) The name(s) of author(s) of the paper / book. In case authors are more than two, only
the first author’s name may be mentioned followed by the words et. al.
b) The title of the paper and name of the Journal or Proceedings (with name of the Journal
or Proceedings in italics).
c) The name of the book (in italics) may be followed with a period (full stop). Then the city
& country name may be followed with colon & then the publisher name followed with
year of publication.

2
d) The number of the volume, page numbers and the years of publication. Only standard
abbreviation(s) may be used in the names of the journals / conferences.
Examples:
1. J.S. Saini, et.al., “Coping With Input Data Uncertainty For Fuzzy Logic Controllers,”
Proceedings of the IEEE-IAS & PES sponsored International Conference, pp. 1-8, Nov. 9-10,
2004, New Delhi.
2. M.B. Priestley, Non-linear and Non-stationary Time Series Analysis. New York, NY:
Academic Press, 1988 pp. 8-13.
3. A. Cohen, I. Daubechies, and J.C. Feauveau, “Biorthogonal Bases of Compactly
Supported Wavelets”, Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, vol.3, no.2, pp. 454-
560, 1992.

11. The diagrams should be printed on a light / white background, tabular matter should be
clearly arranged.
12. To the extent possible, the graphs should be combined for the different parameters for
proper comparison. Single graphs should be avoided as far as possible.
13. Conclusions may not ordinarily exceed one page.
14. Digital or magnetic materials, such as CDs and DVDs, may be included in the report.
They have to be given in a closed pocket in the inside of the back cover page of the report. All
non-paper materials, as above, must have a label each indicating the name of the student and
the date of submission.
15. The Project report may typically consist of following chapters (besides other introductory
pages numbered as (i), (ii), (iii), ... ):
Chapter 1 – Introduction
Chapter 2 – Review of Literature
Chapter 3 – Concept & Theory of the Problem(s)
Chapter 4 – Performance Analysis
(This chapter can span into two to three chapters or sub chapters depending on the type &
volume of the work).
Chapter 5 – Results and Discussion
Chapter 6 – Conclusions and Future Scope.
