Transition to Practice Personal Statement 2
Nursing is considered the most trusted profession because they radiate care and
compassion. My personal philosophy for nursing is caring is the backbone of the profession.
Nursing is a rewarding occupation; however, it takes someone special to take it on. A nurse who
is not caring would not make a difference as it does. A nurse needs to be caring because it will
motivate them to go above and beyond. For instance, a nurse who cares immensely for their
patients will do everything they can to make sure their patient is safe. A nurse does their tasks
under their scope of practice because that is what they are qualified to do. This helps with
promoting patient’s safety and quality of care because nurses are working under what they are
trained to do. Patient’s safety also includes becoming their advocate. Nurses are an advocate for
their patients, meaning questioning potentially harmful orders from physicians or communicating
Professionalism is shown through the nurse’s interactions with patients, coworkers, and
managers. They interact with an appropriate and positive attitude, treating everyone with respect.
Professionalism is also important when it comes to communication with peers. Being respectful
while communicating with coworkers allow for better teamwork and collaboration. Lastly, being
able to accept feedback graciously is important because it is always beneficial to learn ways to
glimpse on the importance of self-care is because you can burnout easily if nothing is done. Self-
care examples include doing activities you enjoy and taking a moment for yourself. Additionally,
leaving work at work when you are at home. While self-care is important, it is also beneficial for
nurses to continue learning and educating themselves on the new technologies and evidence-

based practice. During my time in nursing school, I continue to believe that a nurse needs to care
for their patients holistically. Therapeutic communication is also important because it can be
used to make patients feel heard and safe. In the end, I am more determined to take care of
