Title The Number of Young Asian Travellers and Their Reasons for Travelling
Introduction Figure 1 shows the number of young Asian travellers from 1971to 2010 while Figure 2 depicts the
reasons for travelling for the periods 1971 to 1980 and 2001 to 2010.
OV/OT -Generally, more young Asians tourists than young Asian backpackers travelled for various reasons in
1971 to 1980 and 2001 to 2010.
-Generally, there was an increase in the number of young Asian tourists as well as backpackers but
each group had different reasons for travelling.
KF/A/S o In the period from 1971 to 1980, more young Asian tourists (25000) than young Asian backpackers
(5000) travelled to “avoid the hustle and bustle”, to “have a good time with family and friends” and
to “interact with local people”.
o In the period from 2001 to 2010, more young Asian tourists (75000) compared to young Asian
backpackers (50000) travelled to “explore other culture”, to “avoid the hustle and bustle”, to “have
a good time with family and friends” and to “interact with local people”.
o In the period from 1971 to 1980, less young Asian backpackers (5000) than young Asian tourist
(5000) travelled to “explore other cultures”, to “interact with local people” and to” learn more
about oneself”.
o In the period from 2001 to 2010, less young Asian backpackers (50000) compared to young Asian
tourist (75000) travelled to “explore other cultures”, to “interact with local people”, to ‘test and
develop new abilities” and to” learn more about oneself”.
o Between 1981 to 1990 and 1991 to 2000, the number of young Asian tourists increased from 35000
to 45000 while the number of young Asian backpackers rose from 10000 to 20000.
o The number of young Asian tourists increased from 35000 (1981-1990) to 45000 (1991-2000) while
the number of young Asian backpackers rose from 10000 (1981-1990) to 20000 (1991-2000).
o Between 1971 to 1980 and 1981 to 1990, the number of young Asian tourists increased from 25000
to 30000 while the number of young Asian backpackers rose from 5000 to 10000.
o Between 1991 to 2000 and 2001 to 2010, the number of young Asian tourists increased from 45000
to 75000 while the number of young Asian backpackers rose from 20000 to 50000.
o The 2001 to 2010 period had the highest number of young Asian tourists and backpackers at 75000
and 50000 respectively.
o The 1971 to 1980 period had the lowest number of young Asian tourists and backpackers at 25000
and 5000 respectively.
o The highest number of young Asian tourists and backpackers was at the 2001 to 2010 period with
75000 and 50000 respectively.
o The lowest number of young Asian tourists and backpackers was at the 1971 to 1980 period with
25000 and 5000 respectively.
Conclusion -In conclusion, more young Asians tourists than young Asian backpackers travelled for various reasons
in 1971 to 1980 and 2001 to 2010.
-In conclusion, there was an increase in the number of young Asian tourists as well as backpackers but
each group had different reasons for travelling.

and other inexpensive services.

Between 1981 to 1990 and 1991 to 2000, the number of young Asian tourists increased from 35000 to 45000

In conclusion, more young Asians tourists than young Asian backpackers travelled for various reasons in 1971 to
