7 Communication and Collaboration

Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration locally and globally with students, parents,
peers, and the larger community.

This artifact is my professional Twitter feed. My professional Twitter account was created in
early 2017, as my role as an educator transitioned from a classroom teacher to an instructional coach. I
have used It since that time to communicate and collaborate locally, nationally and globally with
students, parents, peers, and various stakeholders within the community. It has frequently provided me
with access to effective professional development, and it has allowed me the opportunity to benefit
from an authentic audience in my own profession. I continue to enjoy learning from other educators,
staying connected with my professional learning network, and sharing my own ideas.

My twitter feed illustrates my ability to utilize communication and collaboration tools to

communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers and the larger community. The feed
demonstrates effective local communication and collaboration with the teachers and students from the
schools that I support. Teachers participate in monthly social media challenges to strengthen their
personal learning networks. The feed also demonstrates the ability to communicate and collaborate
locally and globally through recent partnerships with schools across the country to 3D print a working
racecar, and to connect with classrooms in Japan, France, and Australia to facilitate digital pen pal
opportunities for students.

This is arguably one of the most important artifacts that I have worked on during this program. I
have enjoyed building my own personal learning network as I have intentionally focused my efforts with
this account around sharing ideas for personalizing learning and effectively integrating technology into
classrooms. Twitter has provided me with an opportunity to connect with educators across the globe to
develop authentic learning opportunities for students in my building. If I were to think back to the time
when I first started this account, the only thing I may have done differently would be to create the
account earlier! I did not create this account until I was in a role that took me out of daily classroom
instruction. I find things daily through Twitter that I save to share with other teachers, but most
importantly, to use with my own classroom when I move back into a more traditional instructional role.

This artifact has had an impact on professional development for the staff and has increased
learning opportunities for students. Through my own interactions with Twitter, and my encouragement
in its use with the schools that I serve, several teachers have joined and use their Twitter accounts to
promote and share effective instructional practices in their classroom. Many teachers, including myself,
use Twitter as an excellent platform to search for new ideas and to learn about new and effective
practices in the field. We have connected world language classrooms with classrooms around the world
to create digital pen pal opportunities for our students. We currently have a class in Japan, France, and
Australia that communicate regularly with our students!
