Bringing the class back together:
A class timer will be displayed on the board as students are
working on their task. Students will be given time warnings
as time is coming to an end. Once the timer goes off, the
class will be instructed to come back together to present
their tasks to the rest of the class until the last 5 minutes of
class. During the last 5 minutes, we will close the lesson by
reviewing the objectives for that day and previewing what’s
to come. Students who may not have had a chance to
present will go on the following day.

Task Cards

1. Real Numbers: When it comes to numbers, you are at the top of your system and consist
of many different types of numbers. You oversee all the other subsets of numbers. One
particular subset, irrational numbers, has been complaining to you about them being set
apart from the rest of the other subsets. The irrational numbers feel left out and don’t feel
welcome in your system. Your role is to write a letter to them explaining why they are
different from the rest of the subset but are still a subset under you. You must create an
inclusive environment by ensuring that irrational numbers feel welcomed. At the
conclusion of your letter, the irrational numbers should have more clarity on their
position under your system. In your letter, make sure to give at least three examples or
illustrations of why irrational numbers are different from the rest.

2. Whole Numbers: You are a whole number texting your best friend, natural numbers.
You and your friend have a lot in common, but there is one thing that makes you
different. Have a conversation with your friend about the one thing that sets you apart,
and how it is a real number. In your messages, make sure to explicitly state the difference
as well as provide an example subset showing the difference of whole numbers and
natural numbers. Be careful not to argue where to start counting. :)

3. Rational Numbers: You are looking to find a soulmate (integers). Someone who is
similar to you and has what you are looking for in a relationship. Without this person,
you basically could not exist because they make up who you are. Your job is to create a
dating profile on a platform of your choice with all the sweet and wonderful
characteristics (at least three) about yourself. Additionally, you need to provide the things
you look for in a companion by identifying the things that mean the most to you. In your
dating profile, make sure to explicitly explain how an integer can also take the form of a
rational number by providing at least five examples in your profile. Also include a profile
picture in the given box.
