( #115/58, Pandara Street, Poonamallee, Chennai - 600056, near Vaitheeswaran Koil )

It was a pleasure visiting the export house. I am grateful to have visited the export
house.

In Soniya garments, Progressive Bundle System (PBS) is followed in a product layout

manner. Progressive Bundle System is also called as Material Handling System. As
name implies the bundle of garment parts move from operation to operation.

It is the traditional Production system. Widely used by apparel

manufacturers for several decades and still today. 80% apparel manufacturers use
the Bundle system (PBS).
Around 25 employees - 20 tailors, a pattern cutting master, button sewing tailor,
pattern marking employee and 2 helpers work in the unit.

The unit undertakes orders from brands and makes the garment according to the
description asked from the company end. The unit was working on Patel export’s
order and WIN export’s order when we visited. They work both on knits and woven.

Types of machine used:

1. Button hole machine: Buttonholes are holes in fabric which allow buttons to pass
through, securing one piece of the fabric to another. The raw edges of
a buttonhole are usually finished with stitching. This may be done either by hand or
by a sewing machine.

2. Button sewing machine: Button stitching machine is a special type

of machine which is used in garments industries to attach button.

3. Feed of the arm machine: Feed of the arm machine is actually a chain stitch
machine for chainstitch designs working with sew and stitch. It contains looper
instead of bobbin. Different sizes of needle and thread dresses should be used in this
machine depending on the thickness of fabric.

4. Straight Knife Cutting machine: It is the most useful cutting instrument in

apparel cutting. This machine is called straight knife cutting machine because its
cutter is straight in shape. It is used for both woven & knit fabric.

5. Single needle lock stitch machine: Lockstitch is the most common type of stitch
made by a Sewing Machine. The term “single needle stitching”, often found on
dress shirt labels, refers to a lockstitch. A lockstitch sewing machine uses two
threads, one in the needle and the other in a bobbin.

6. Over lock machine - 4 thread: An overlock is a kind of stitch that sews over the edge
of one or two pieces of cloth for edging, hemming, or seaming. Usually an overlock
sewing machine will cut the edges of the cloth as they are fed through.

7. Flat lock machine: Flatlock stitching is the stitching that looks like overlocking on
both sides of a seam and is often used in swimwear, sportswear, on baby's clothes,
or just as a decorative exposed seam. It creates a seam that is flat and has the same
appearance both inside and out.
