Detailed Lesson Plan In Mathematics

I. Objectives
At the end of 40- minute period, 75% of the class should be able to:
a. I dentify the difference of solving similar and dissimilar rational algebraic expressions;
b. Find the sum and difference of itl;
c. Appreciate the importance of fractions; and
d. Perform the right procedure in solving similar and dissimilar fractions.

II. Subject Matter

a.Topic : Adding and Subtracting similar and dissimilar fractions
b.Reference: G-Math Intermediate Algebra pp. 120-125
c. Author : Cecil Tamazona- Tamayo
d.Materials : Visual aids, E-book and chalk
III. Learning Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Students’s Activity

A. Preliminary

Goodmorning class! Goodmorning Teacher Raymhar! It’s nice to see

you!
It’s nice to see you too.
Please pick up the pieces of
paper under your chair and
check your alignment. (picking up the pieces of paper under the chairs)

You may now take your seats. (sitting down)

B. Lesson Proper

a.Review

Class!What was your lesson

yesterday? The lesson yesterday Ma’am was about
Multiplicationand division of rational algebraic
expressions.

Very good!

What is multiplication of rational

algebraic expression?
Yes, Camille! If the products of the numerator divides it by the
products of the denominator.

Very good!
What about the division of rational
algebraic expressions?
Yes, Alicia! If the quotient of the two rationak algebraic
expression is equal to the product of dividend,
then get the reciprocal of the divisor.

Exactly!

C. Motivation

Now, class I have here some

flashcards of
fractions. All you need to do is to
guest if it is
similar or dissimilar fractions.
Is it clear? Yes, Maam!

Similar Dissimilar
1. 5/9 + 2/3 1. 5/9 + 2/3 1. 5/9 + 2/3
2. 5/3 + 2/3 2. 5/3 + 2/3 2. 2/3 - 1/5
3. 2/3- 1/5 3. 2/3- 1/5 3. ½ + 5/7
4. ¾ -¼ 4. ¾ - ¼ 4. 5/11 – 3/2
5. ½ + 5/7 5. ½ + 5/7
6. 11/5 – 8/5 6. 11/5 – 8/5
7. 5/11 - 3/5 7. 5/11 - 3/5
8. 3/7 – 1/7 8. 3/7 – 1/7

Very Good!

D. Discussion

Now, I will discuss to you the

addition and subtraction of rational
algebraic expression.

Open your E-book on p.120 (Opening their E-Books)

Who wants to define similar fraction? (Raising their hands)

Yes, Prince! Similar fractions have the sane denominator.

Very good!

What about the dissimilar fraction? (Raising their hands)

Yes,Ian! Dissimilar fraction have the same denominator.

Very good!

So, how to add and subtract similar or

disiimilar fraction?

Yes, Joshua? To add and subtract similar and dissimilar fraction,

simply simplify by adding or subtracting the
numerator then copy the denominator.
Very good!

So, for example.

1. 8/x+5 + x-4/x+5

Since the denominator is the same,

what you will do? Just simply copy the denominator Ma’am, the
simplify.
=8+x-4/x+5
=x+4/x+5

Ok!What is now the answer?

The answer Ma’am is x+4/x+5
Next example
2. Subtract the numerator
Y=7 – (6-y) the copy the denominator
y – B.

y+7/y-B – (6-y)/y-b

What is the numerator? The numerator Ma’am is y+7 and 6-y

Y+7 – 6-y/y-B

y+y+7-6/Y-B

Class! y+y? 2y Ma’am!

2y+1/y-B

Now, What is the answer? The answer Ma’am is 2y+1/y-B

Precisely!

Lets give another example

a. 2/L2 + 2/LMN + 1/MN

What we will do first? First Ma’am is to find the LCD because the
denominator are not the same.

What is the LCD stands for? Least Common Demonitor Ma’am.

Exactly!

What do you think is the LCD? The LCD Ma’am is LMN.

Very Good!

So, what shall you do? Divide the denominator by LCD and multiply the
quotient by the numerator.
Good! Then,

= 2/L2 + 2/LMN + 1/ MN
=2MN + 2 LN + 1L2/L2MN

E. Generalization

Is there any questions?

Yes, Solidad! Regrading to last problem Ma’am.Do we always

factor out the given?

No! it’s up to the given if it is

factorable or not.

Is it clear now? Thank you Ma’am.

Who wants to summarize the today’s Yes, Ma’am!

lesson?

Yes, shiela! In adding and subtracting similar fraction, simply

add or subtract the numerator then copy the
denominator.
Very Good!

F. Application

From this time class, I want you

to solve here in the board.

Number 1. (raising their hands)

Yes, Glen!

1. 4f/fg+fh – 3f/fg+fh 1. 4f/fg+fh – 3f/fg+fh

=4f/fg+fh+ 3f/fg+fh

Number 2. (raising their hands)

Yes Jessie

2.3t-3u/3v + 4t+3u/3v 2. 3t-3u/3v + 4t+3u/3v

=3t+4t - 3u+3u/3v
=7t/3v

Thank you Glen and Jessie.

Very Good!

III. Evaluation

1. 3/p+2q + 15/p+2q 1. 3/p+2q + 15/p+2q

=3+5/p+2q
=8/p+2q

2. 6-4k/12 – 3-3k/12 2. 6-4k/12 – 3-3k/12

=6-3-4k-3k/12
=3-k/12

3. 2x/2x-1 + x/2x+1 3. 4. 2x/2x-1 + x/2x+1

=3x/2x-1
