Estimating PT Level of Supply per Route
Given PV for a route, to determine the number of units required to serve
the demand uses the following relationship:
NU = PV
ASC x VLF x NRTi

Where: NU = no. of units operating per day


PV = average one-way passenger volume in pax/day
ASC = average seating capacity
VLF = viable load factor
NRTi = ideal no. round trips per day

To give allowance for repair and maintenance, a utilization rate (UR) is


introduced, so, the required fleet size (FS) of a given route is

Factors re the Level of Supply
Explanations for the level of supply factors:
PV: is the target passenger volume for the design year for future scenarios,
PT shall be determined using passenger demand forecast;
NU: required number of units to be operated per day for a given route;
ASC: depends on the type of vehicle to be operated in a route
VLF: shall be based on financial factors such as vehicle operating cost and
profit to operators
NRTi: based on the design operating characteristics, to wit:
- Average travel speed
- Dwell time per stop
- Terminal waiting time
- Route length
- Operating hours per day
