New Local 73 By-Laws Have Been Passed Which Remove Your

Democratic Right to A Voice and Vote in the Union

What Does This Mean For You?

The New By-Laws that have been passed in 2018 will have this future effect in 2019.
There will be one more regular Union meeting in April 2019. After that there will only be
one yearly Assembly meeting, at which only delegates can speak and vote. Members
can come but just as observers. Practically this means after April 2019--

# 1. You will not be able to raise your objections and demand answers regarding –

Where is my Contract? Where is my Rep? Where is my Grievance?

What will the Union do about the changes in our jobs at Work?
#2. You will not be able to voice or vote on any dues increase because the officers will
not allow you to object from the floor during the Annual Assembly.
#3. You will not be able to vote on by-law changes. Only delegates can vote.
#4. You will not be able to nominate members for office or position from the floor
because there is no Union meeting - just the Annual Assembly. From now on you can
only speak or vote if you are a delegate. Members are allowed to attend as observers
but not as decision makers. We give our hard earned dues money to the Local, yet now
will have no say on how our dues money is spent.
How delegates are chosen is not clear in the new by-laws. But we know from
experience with the International, it will all be a show.
Our previous by-laws required membership approval of all Officer & Executive Board
decisions made prior to the date of the membership meeting. Minutes were handed out
in writing to the members at the quarterly membership meeting. Members had to
approve all decisions made by majority vote.
We believe that many of these new by-law changes are illegal and violate federal and
local labor law, but that is currently in the courts.

It is TIME TO STAND UP and FIGHT for your RIGHTS! WHEN YOU
