How to: Be an Exceptional Teacher

My philosophy to be an exceptional educator includes- being a great role model to my

students, providing a comfortable atmosphere for them, and to be knowledgeable on the subject

matter I am teaching. How we teach our children is incredibly important to the future of our

country.

Being a great role model is one of the most important parts of being a teacher. Children

spend most of their day in the classroom, and like the sponges they are, are highly influenced by

their teachers. After becoming a mother, I found how important it is for me to teach my daughter

how to be the best individual she can be, by my own actions. Everything I say and do is a

reflection of my character. This is something that I find incredibly important within the

classroom. Student’s look up to their teachers for advice and knowledge. I want children to look

up to me as an educator and to respect who I am as a person. My goal is to be memorable. I want

my students to look back on their elementary years and say “I remember Miss. C” with

excitement.

There are many children in this country and world that have incredibly difficult home

lives. I want to create a comfortable atmosphere for all students. It is important that students feel

safe while at school, and I intend to create that safe atmosphere for them. While growing up, I

had a very hostile home life- from screaming and yelling to fighting. When I went to school, it

was one of the only parts of my day that provided me that comfort I wasn’t able to receive while

at home. For the students that do not have hostile home environments, they may still not feel safe
to speak in their homes. My ears will be open to listen to anything and everything my students

want to tell me. I will be their safe haven.

Ever since I started working when I was sixteen years old, I have always felt a deep

desire to know it all. Not having an answer to a question from a fellow coworker or client is just

not acceptable for me. I have always been the type of person that loves to gather knowledge and

share it with others. I want to make sure that when I am an educator, that I am able to answer all

of my students’ questions with confidence. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I will find

out and share my new knowledge. As an educator I think it is incredibly important to want to

have as much knowledge as possible. Students are very inquisitive in their younger years, and I

want to feel confident in answering any questions that arise while teaching.

I am very much looking forward to becoming an elementary school teacher. My passion

for teaching our youth is through the roof. I will do everything I can to show my students every

single year how much they truly matter to me. I will treat my students as if they were my own

children, and work with my students’ families to give the best education I can to them.

PS……

Below is a copy of the assignment stating we could submit out final teaching philosophy in

either written or visual form. I was under the impression we had to do both a visual and written.

But after reading this, I decided on the written version. Thank you.
