7-19. What makes Zipcar an attractive employer for which to work?

Zip car is a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group Inc., which is one the premier

global provider of rental services. Zipcar provides services to businesses,

consumers, and governments throughout many countries. By providing these

services they are able to save money and reduce the hassle for transportation in

cites. Zipcar provides over 950,000 members on-demand access to more than

12,000 vehicles in urban areas on college campuses and at airports across the

United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Austria, France, Germany and

Turkey (Zipcar). Zip care is an innovative company growing at rapid a speed due to

their support of the social responsibility and the environment. This is one the

reasons they are an attractive employer for employees that are looking for a new

innovative company to work for.

The company allows customers to share a car for a fee as small similar to a

short cab ride. The main goal of the company is to reduce the number of cars being

driven on the road and thereby reducing environmental pollution (Zipcar). Zipcar’s

rental vehicles are the most up to date vehicles that are conveniently located in

public areas close to populated areas (Chesley). The vehicles can be shared between

multiple customers. Zipcar’s approach helps to decrease the number of cars on the

road and reduce the amount of carbon emissions to the ecosystem.

7-20. What do those doing the actual hiring at Zipcar feel are important

characteristics to find in potential employees?

Zipcar focuses their hiring model around employees that are similar to their

customers. The average employee of Zipcar is looking for something new and cutting
edge just like their customers. Their hiring managers seek out employees that are

passionate about the type of industry in which they wish to work as well as the company

as a whole. They employees usually are solid professional, passionate about the their

brand, courteous, and presentable to customers. According to Zipcar potential employees

must also comprehend and have an appreciation for what Zipcar is about and understand

the climates and different cultures in which the company conducts its operations

(Kennedy). Zipcar began with a small team of 18 employees (Kennedy). Employees and

managers have to have open dialog, constructive criticism, and continuous feedback will

enforce and strengthen Zipcar’s strategy and vision to take the company to the next level.

Employees that Zipcar hire must an understanding and have a deep appreciation for what

Zipcar stands for and understand the climates and different cultures in which the

company conducts its operations around the world. Zipcar is looking to hire forwarding

thinking employees to help the company flourish.
