ABSTRACT:

Hospital Management System (HMS) is state-of-the-art software that offers comprehensive solutions to
various segments of Healthcare Industry such as Super Specialty, Multi Specialty and General Hospitals
of varied capacities, small Nursing Homes, Polyclinics and General Practitioners.

The hospital management system works to address issues from multi-discipline angles related
to hospital management and services, doctors and patients.

The application is capable of handling clinical and patients care aspects in any health care set
up. The hospital management system has different modules; each module addressing specific
activity and facilitating in improving quality of patient care. Hospital ERP system works to
improve human resource management which leads to maximized value realization of the
investment done. The system reduces human requirement and intervention for different
hospital activities. The hospital management system integrates different systems used in
hospitals such as financial management, inventory management and other important systems.
The integration of all systems leads to availability of updated information at one desk.
Information about appointments, bed availability, and schedules of doctor, specialized services,
and treatments is easily available to the person sitting in the front desk.
Problem Statement:

The current and conventional system of hospitals is non-computerized system which hinders the proper
utilization of time and other resources necessary to run working in hospital. It limits the capability of the
hospital management/administration to keep proper record of patient’s history, medication, lab tests,
and review of doctors on patients. Having operations of different kinds like Diagnose, laboratory tests,
patient’s records and reports (monthly/yearly), the current conventional system needs to be replaced by
a more sophisticated system with more appropriate way of communication, follow-up and progress
reporting. The existing manual system causes medication errors, redundancies in different resources,
lack of efficiency in allocated budget; which results trust deficiency on government. Un-educated as well
as educated patients cannot express their history properly to the consultant which is the loophole of the
manual system using currently in hospitals.

Rising inflation has forced every industry to look for ways to reduce operational costs and same applies
to health care industry. The rising hospitalization costs have been a cause of concern for patients as well
as health care providers. Increasing competition has forced health care providers to look for solutions
that will help them to reduce operational costs without affecting the quality of health care provided to
their patients. The only solution to this problem is – hospital management system (HMS).

Scope/Objectives of the proposed solution:

Why hospital management system has become need of the times?

With growing population and increasing number of critical diseases, you can see number of hospitals
steeply increasing. Today, taking care of patients and providing Medicare is no longer considered as a
service, the hospital sector is now referred as health care industry where people have some
expectations when they come for health care.

Nowadays, patients are more demanding. With so many medical facilities available, they expect to get
the best for spending their hard earned money. This has also forced health care providers to look
beyond old practices and technologies where service is not up to the mark and the medical bills are also
high. So there is a need to implement a hospital management system that will work to remove
operational inefficiencies and improve the quality of health care.

Why hospital information system is the right solution for health care industry?

Hospital ERP software works to improve human resource management which leads to maximized value
realization of the investment done. The system reduces human requirement and intervention for
different hospital activities. For example, the tedious work such as appointments and scheduling are
managed with lesser effort and greater ease. Similarly, patient management activities such as admission,
discharge, transfer and billing are efficiently done with lesser man power. The ERP makes the
information transfer quick and automated. The reduced dependency on manpower reduces operational
costs. These savings can be utilized to improve other critical systems used in patient care.

The hospital management system integrates different systems used in hospitals such as financial
management, inventory management and other important systems. The integration of all systems leads
to availability of updated information at one desk. Information about appointments, bed availability,
and schedules of doctor, specialized services, and treatments is easily available to the person sitting in
the front desk.

All these characteristics of hospital management system help in fine tuning operations within hospitals
and prevent excess use of manpower that increases operational costs. All these factors make hospital
management system more important in modern times.

HMS consists of the Base modules, Add-on modules and Specialty modules. Additional modules
both add-on and specialty modules can be seamlessly integrated to the HMS at any time. The
Integration Manager takes care of all the data consistency issues.

Base Module:

 Appointments
 Registration
 Consultation
 Ward Management
 Billing and Accounts
 Packages and Health Plans
 Corporate and Insurance
 Electronic Medical Records
 Services (Test/Results)

Specialty Modules:

 Cardiology
 Nephrology
 Gastro-Enterology
 Ophthalmology
 Obstetrics and Gynecology
 Orthopedics
 Physiotherapy
 Neurology
 Oncology
 Dermatology
 Medical Imaging
Add-on Modules:

 Stores and Pharmacy

 Dietary
 Blood Bank
 Waste management
 Complains/ House Keeping
 Financial Accounting
 Attendance and Payroll
 Duty Roster System
 OT Management
 Radiology
 Emergency/ Casualty
 Ambulatory Services
 Material Management
 Asset Management

Mode of operation:
Based on some unique identity i.e. CNIC number or any social security number.

At entrance point there will be some bar-code detector which will detect the CNIC and retrieve the
required information from it.

The procedure of handling patient in hospital i.e. from reception to doctor and then to lab and to
pharmacy

HMS can Track the patient in hospital from the front desk of reception for visitors.

Attendance and duty timings of Doctors, paramedics and other staff in health care industry may
examine by HMS.

Evaluation can be possible of doctors and other staff of hospitals, because of the data present in reports.

LCDs will be in the waiting rooms connected with the system which will show the no of patients visited
on previous day and attended by each doctor. It will also show the upcoming events in hospitals and
people feedback about the overall system and facilities in hospital.

* Hardware smart boards may install in hospitals to control different machinery and devices in hospital
in a smart way/remotely i.e. controlling each devices from a remote as well as from android app.
