Chapter 2 Literature Review

2.2 Incorporating The Effect in Near-Fault Pulses in Seismic Hazard Assessment

Two types of models were suggested to incorporate the effect of pulses in seismic hazard assessment:
broadband models and narrowband models.

Broadband models:

strong ground motion attenuation relations to include the amplitude and duration effects of rupture
directivity. Seismological Research Letters, 68(1), 199-222.

analysis. Proceedings of the 6th international conference on seismic zonation (Vol. 1, pp. 151-156).

under pulse-like ground motion. Engineering Structures, 160, 395-407.

(I should just briefly mention about a few literatures that are general evaluation of equivalent linear
method without focusing on pulse-like ground motions.)

of base-isolated structures subjected to pulse-like near-fault earthquakes. Soil Dynamics and
Earthquake Engineering, 96, 115-127.

(Intensity measures that consider the higher-mode effect and the effect of non-linearity for high-rise
buildings under pulse-like ground motions should only be mentioned and listed. Similarly, intensity
measures for base-isolated systems without considering the effect of pulse-like ground motions are also
just mentioned briefly.)
