Symptom

The Business Add-In (BAdI) MD_PIR_FLEX_CONS is used for more flexible modelling of the consumption and
reduction processes of planned
independent requirements. This BAdI enables you to realize consumption and reduction processes in which the
consumption indicator '4' is used
for planned independent requirements for each MRP element to control whether a consumption or reduction takes
place.
In some scenarios, the control at the level of the MRP element (DELKZ) is however, not finely granulated enough. You
may also want to take certain
characteristics of individual MRP elements into account when controlling the consumption and reduction processes.
The enhancements delivered with this Note enable realization of the corresponding requirements.
Other Terms
Planned independent requirements consumption, planned independent requirements reduction,
Reason and Prerequisites
The Business Add-In MD_PIR_FLEX_CONS was provided for Release 4.70 with SAP Note 608760. In subsequent
releases, it is part of the
standard delivery. Read the documentation for this Business Add-In in the standard system and note the tips and tricks
for the implementation.
Solution
The following describes the necessary actions required for enhancement of the existing Business Add-In
MD_PIR_FLEX_CONS. The BAdI is
enhanced with the additional method GET_REQ_CONS_CHARACTERISTIC, which permits you to specify which
requirement characteristics are
taken into account in the consumption check. The existing method CHECK_PIR_CONS_REDUC is also relevant
because the consumption or
reduction check is made available by the method GET_REQ_CONS_CHARACTERISTIC.
When you implement this Note, first perform the manual activities before you implement the correction instructions.
The implementation of this SAP Note has no influence on existing implementations of the Business Add-In
MD_PIR_FLEX_CONS. Existing
implementations (without implementation of the new BAdI method) can still be run and do not require adjustment or re-
implementation.
You only need to re-implement/adjust the BAdI implementations if you want to use the new function for taking
requirement characteristics into
account in the consumption check.
Documentation for BAdI method GET_REQ_CONS_CHARACTERISTIC
The documentation for the new BAdI method GET_REQ_CONS_CHARACTERISTIC is described in the following. This
method documentation is
also supplied using the Support Packages referenced in this note:
Short text
Method for determining relevant consumption characteristics
Function:
Using this method, you can define and determine requirement characteristics for requirements to be consumed, which
are to be taken into account
in flexible primary independent requirements consumption.
Prerequisites:
The method for determining consumption-relevant requirement characteristics is executed during the consumption or
reduction of planned
independent requirements for all MRP elements that can be essentially consumed against primary independent
requirements.
A check of the determined requirement characteristic in planned independent requirements consumption is only
performed for planned
independent requirements with consumption type '4'.

Other Components
You therefore have to create planned independent requirements with indicator '4' Flexible consumption against various
MRP elements (BAdI) for
the Consumption indicator: planning.
Within the context of the check of consumption or reduction of planned independent requirements by certain MRP
elements (method
CHECK_PIR_CONS_REDUC), you can then refer to the previously determined requirement characteristics.
The method for determining consumption-relevant requirement characteristics should only be implemented in flexible
planned independent
requirements consumption if the MRP element is insufficient as the finest level of granularity in checking the
consumption or reduction of planned
independent requirements. If no consumption-relevant requirement characteristic is determined in this case, the
consumable requirements in the
methods CHECK_PIR_CONS_REDUC can only be differentiated based on the MRP element (parameter IM_DELKZ).
