PREFACE

An ideal education consists of theoretical lessons in synchronization with practical

practices. Without a chance to use the theoretical knowledge in the actual practice, proper

management skills cannot be learned. To fulfill the vast gap between academic learning

and its implementation in the practical world of modern business and commerce,

internship programs are carried out. These help the students to understand the actual

trends of business activities.

Therefore Sharda University has been carrying out the internship program to provide

such practical experiences. I have tried my best to carry out my internship practice and to

project my learning in this report with minimal errors. This report has been prepared as

per the requirement of that program for the degree of Master in Business Administration.

It is not possible to prepare a project report without the assistance and encouragement of

other people. This one is certainly no exception. I would like to extend

my sincere obligation towards all the personages who have helped, guided, cooperated

and encouraged me in this endeavor.

completion of my project.

Executive Summary
Publications in Nepal are publishing various types of books i.e.; Academic book, Novel

and other books. In this industry Atharai publication (Pvt.) Ltd. is one of largest

publication in Nepal publishing academic books and other various non-academic books.

Atharai have a range of products such as academic books (main books), non-academic

books like Novel, story books, research papers and other educational material being

intern I studied Atharai with an objective of diagnosing problem areas and giving

recommendations for problem solving. I studied all departments of Atharai, interviewed

different personnel and took workers feedback through questionnaire. In Inventory

department, I find that there is no scientific system, lack of professional people and salary

structure of marketing officers is not good. In production department, I studied quality

control, production processes, raw material and finish goods store. Personnel department

role is optimal, relationships with workers are good and there is performance appraisal

system. Finance department is working on traditional manual basis although financial

analysis shows good return on investment. Atharai is facing different types of

competition in different product markets. Atharai has no direct competitor but

competition exist according to product wise. For different departments of Atharai I

recommended different strategies and action plans .For production department I

recommended economic order quantity system (EOQ), development of long term

relationships with suppliers and improvement of general store operations. I have

recommended; brand extension, product extension, market development and other

matching and conversion strategies. The final recommended strategy is product

development
