So, here are the steps to add a smile to Teddy :

Caution : do not use a square less than 35cm if you want to make Teddy smiling, at least for
your first tries.

1 - starting step to Teddy

2 - pull the mouth flap a little toward bottom, so that if you imagine you extend the lines of
the edges of the colored nose toward bottom, you will meet intersection of this flap with head
edge
3 - fold left side up 45° with vertical : the edge meets nose edge (reason of former step)
4 - unfold and repeat on right side
5 - Fold bottom point to intersection of creases made in 3 and 4
6 - Fold flap up, making a kind of rabbit ear using existing creases
(landmarks are ends of line made in 5, and creases made in 3 and 4)
7 - result
8 - valley down on existing crease (along base of the nose)
9 - from 8, squash fold to the right. this photo is a "in progress" step
10 - result
11 - valley small flap to the left
12 - valley up
13 - inside reverse fold the small tip
14 – swivel up the tip 90° from the model plane. The goal is to spread squash it
15 - carefully spread appart the two parts of the tip to make the squash. The bottom part will
also begin to squash
16 - result after flattened
17 - valley down again along base of nose
18 - swivel left part up, with a mountain fold on top white triangle, and unfolding the small
triangle on the tip
19 - result - repeat on right
20 - prepare an open squash fold with a valley fold at end of existing 45° creases
21 - squash in progress
22 - result
23 - valley mouth down
24 – swivel up mouth and one underlying white layer up - unsink next white flap (see 26 to
see the result). This must be done by unfolding carefully that part
25 - view of the unsinking process, with the crease assignement of unsink
26 - result of 24 - see also step 28 to see the unsink flap above the mouth
27 - add 2 small valley creases to hide the white flap behind mouth
28 - valley down that white flap and the mouth
29 - valley down the unsinked flap, to teddy is now smiling :o)))
30 – Add mountain folds at bottom of head to round it
FINISHED !!

As you see, it adds a little more steps, but Teddy's face is then so cute !

As you also see, it's possible to fold only Teddy's face, from a square folded in a preliminary base, and using just
needed steps Teddy's diagrams.
