1.0 GENERAL

1.1 This specification is intended for both in-house engineering personnel and engineering firms
generating CAD drawings for CertainTeed.

1.2 The preferred CAD system for CertainTeed is AutoCAD (latest version) and the support files provided
by CertainTeed. All CAD drawings shall be generated using the preferred system, unless acceptable
alternate arrangements have been made prior to the start of work.

1.3 Start all new drawings using the drawing template provided by CertainTeed [CT_Standard – 2008
Template.DWT] Follow this naming convention:

Drawing Number: 01-03-42-0266-C2

CAD File Name: 01-03-42-0266-C2.dwg
Reference the Drawing Number Table to understand numeric designations

Revisions, designated by letters on the title block - A, B, C, D, etc., are to indicate a change in
issuance, which would be considered a major change. Changes to the actual content of the drawing
are to be designated by numbers attached to the major change. For example:

A = Original Issue
A0-Ax = Content Change Revisions
B = Issuance Change (Issued for Bid for example)
B0-Bx = Content Change Revisions
C = Issuance Change (Issued For Construction for example)

1.4 Utilize the Text styles provided within the CertainTeed’s drawing template file.

1.5 Utilize the Dimension styles provide within the CertainTeed’s drawing template file.

1.6 Utilize the Layouts provided within the CertainTeed’s drawing template file. Delete unused layouts. All
drawing elements shall be drawn at full scale.

1.7 Layer names are to be descriptive rather than encrypted. Related layers will use prefixed layer names.

1.8 Drawing elements shall have their color “ByLayer”. All other element properties such as line weight
and/or line type can be driven “ByLayer” or explicitly set.

1.9 Blocks shall be created with their nested elements on layer “0” only, using color “ByBlock” and linetype
“ByBlock”.

1.10 Although External reference drawings can be used internally by vendors, they shall not be used for a
delivered drawing. An “external reference drawing” links (or attaches) one drawing to another. XREF’s
must be bound to the host file(s) using the “bind” command.

2.0 DOCUMENT DELIVERABLE TO CERTAINTEED

2.1 All saved drawings shall have zoom states saved to the extent of the Layout tab.

2.2 Except for the “CT_” series items, purge all drawings, including nested entities.

2.3 Final documentation shall be provided on CD-R.

3.0 AUTOCAD AND SUPPORT FILES

3.1 All drawings shall be generated using AutoCAD and CertainTeed support files, unless acceptable
arrangements are made prior to the start of the work.

3.2 Best Practice – All software features and technology are to be utilized appropriately and as intended.

4.0 Dimension styles

4.1 Refer to TABLE 1 for relationships between scale, scale factor and text size.

4.2 Scaling of dimensions is automatically done when dimensioning through or onto a layout viewport. Be
certain that the viewport scale is appropriately set and “Display locked” before dimensioning.
AutoCAD “Spacetrans” command is also useful for scaling text easily and appropriately.

5.0 Layouts

5.1 Drawing elements are to be drawn at full scale in the Model Tab – also known as Model Space. As
configured within the supplied template, the title block is to be onto a Layout Tab – also known as
Paper Space. When scaling is not a drawing requirement – for instance a schematic – drawing
elements shall be drawn on the same layout as the title block..

6.0 Layer Names

6.1 Layer names are to be descriptive rather than encrypted. Related layers will use prefixed layer names.
The following are examples:

Descriptive Names: Annotation, Text, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical…

Prefixed Layer Names: Plumbing_Water_Cold, Plumbing_Water_Hot…

7.0 Element Properties

7.1 All elements requiring line weight will have the line weight assigned either “ByLayer” or explicitly set,
eliminating the need for the plot configuration files. Linetype shall also be drawn “ByLayer” and/or
explicitly set.however, drawing elements shall be drawn with color assigned “ByLayer” only.

8.0 Blocks

8.1 Minor elements within a block requiring different line weight and/or linetype than the major portions of
the block will be assigned the specific properties per above paragraph.
