GAS ELEMENTS
◗ Blend (FS)
Suitable for the filtration of a wide variety of liquids including water,
lubricating oil, process fluids, engine fuels, quench oils, solvents, and process
fluids. The composition is 60% cotton and 40% polyester.
◗ Polypropylene (FY)
Suitable for the filtration of process fluids, salt water, solvents, boiler feed
water, and water.
◗ White Cotton (FN)
Used where the purity of the liquids to be filtered is of the utmost importance
and no dyes or lubricants can be tolerated. Suitable for engine fuels, solvents,
and process fluids.

Element Efficiencies
Nominal efficiency rating is defined as 98% removal of the stated particle size and larger.
Absolute efficiency is defined as 99.98% removal of the stated particle size and larger.
To determine the removal ratings of an element, FASAM uses a standard filter test dust
Beta Ratio (B) % Removal and measures the dirt content of the inlet and outlet of the filter. From this information,
1 0 the Beta Ratio (B) can be calculated. FASAM uses the most stringent of rating methods,
the “first pass” efficiency to determine the Beta Ratio.
2 50
The following chart shows the relationship of the Beta Ratio (B) and Percent removal.
10 90
50 98 From the chart, it can be seen that the nominal rating of an element is the micron rating
at which the element attains a Beta Ratio (B) of 50 (98% removal). The absolute rating
100 99
of an element is the micron rating at which the element attains a Beta Ratio (B) of 5,000
1,000 99.9 (99.98% removal).
5,000 99.98 The Percent (%) Removal Efficiency can be obtained from the (B) value and can be
calculated as follows:
