NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 7th December, 2017
G.S.R. 1482(E).—Whereas the draft rules further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, were
published, as required under sub-section (1) of section 212 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), vide
notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways number G.S.R. 1116(E),
dated the 29th August, 2017 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II, Section 3, Sub-section (i) dated
the 29th August, 2017 inviting objections and suggestions from affected persons before the expiry of the period of thirty
days from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing the said notification were made available to public;
Whereas, copies of the said Gazette notification were made available to the public on the 29th August, 2017;
And, whereas, no objections and suggestions have been received from the public in respect of the said draft
rules;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 64 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of
1988), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules,
1989, namely: —
1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (Eighteenth Amendment) Rules, 2017.
(2) They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (hereinafter referred to as the Principal rules), in rule 47, in sub rule
(3), for the figure and words “(3) The modular hydraulic trailers registered under these rules”, the figure and words “(4)
The modular hydraulic trailers registered under these rules”, shall be substituted.
3. In the Principal rules, in rule 47, after sub-rule (4), following sub-rule shall be inserted, namely:-
“(5) All types of trailers and semitrailers covered under rule 125D, shall be registered independently.
Provided that, if the owner or registering party, requests to register the trailer or semitrailer jointly with
compatible towing vehicle as a single vehicle, the registering authority shall register them as a single vehicle.”.
