material nouns

Methodology:  Explain the purpose of learning grammar so that we can become

better speakers and writers.
 Ask students to look around the room for objects. Call on a few
students to share their items and ask them if they know, these objects are
called nouns
 Ask them to define a noun. After taking their responses ask them to
tell the kind of noun of their items. Write a sentence on the board and ask
them to identify the different kinds of nouns in it. For eg. Ram found a
bunch of keys by the side of the road.
 Give them another example – My watch is made up of silver. Now
ask them again to identify nouns in the sentence. If they get confused to
identify silver as a noun then explain what it is made up of, is it a
material?
 Explain Material Noun with the help of definition and examples.
 Tell students that we are going to set a timer for 2 minutes, and they
are meant to go through their story 1 of English course book and circle as
many nouns as they can.
 Discuss the words they encircle as nouns.
Activities: Alphabet pool
Form teams of four players each then teacher will call out a letter from the
alphabet, students can write the names of persons, places, animals, and
things starting with that letter. If their names are unique, their team will
get a score of ten for each name. Collective nouns will also be considered
like herd of cows for animal or bouquet for thing. If any name matches the
name given by another team, both the teams get five points. It can be
played on a grid like this-
