Students are learning about silk worms, Riverside History, and ranchos.
Students were given an activity including 8 important facts about Riverside
and an additional 8 important facts about John W North. Both of the facts
were placed on a circle organizer.
Students read social studies materials out loud. Students created a wheel
that described facts about John North. Students also answered reading
response questions and find 8 important facts about John W. North.
Social Studies: Comprehension questions with guided reading. Students find
answers to comprehension questions in SS workbooks.
Language Arts: Students were probed to analyze and infer using concrete evidence.
“Why can we “infer” that John North was a kind person?”
Students are given opportunities to write their own stories during Social
Studies. Throughout my observation, students were given two writing
assignments. The first assignment was to create a narrative story about a
camel. The second assignment was to create a narrative story including facts
from Riverside History. There a RTI groups on Fridays with readers who
are on a lower level of reading.
Students write important facts about Social Studies topics in their journals.
Students were instructed to write 8 important facts about John W North. At
Mark Twain, students use a book created specifically for Riverside history.
Social Studies: Children are asked to read material out loud with comprehension
questions that analyze the material.
Language Arts: After completing their stories, students have their stories read by
the teacher in order to correct grammatical errors they have made.
