The population of the USA and the UK

Population is the most important factor in developing process of a country. But the population is
shaped by a number of another factors including fertility, birth/death rate and migration.
The United Kingdom's population is the third-largest in the European Union (behind Germany and
France) and the 22st-largest in the world. In contrast to the UK, the USA is the third most populated country
in the world.
In both countries the population is unequally distributed, due to some parts which are unsuitable for
people to live. The UK’s population density is one of the highest in the world. Almost one-third of the
population lives in England, the most prosperous and fertile region. England has the highest population
density and Scotland has the lowest. The most populated cities in the UK are London – the capital of the
country, Birmingham and Manchester. But the USA’s population is spread throughout the eastern half of
the United States (particularly the Great Lakes area, northeast, east, and southeast) and the western tier
states; mountainous areas, principally the Rocky Mountains and Appalachian chain, deserts in the
southwest, the dense boreal forests in the extreme north, and the central prairie states are less densely
populated; Alaska's population is concentrated along its southern coast – with particular emphasis on the
city of Anchorage – and Hawaii's is centered on the island of Oahu. California and Texas are the most
populous states, as the mean center of U.S. population has consistently shifted westward and southward.
New York City is the most populous city in the United States.
In both countries the birth rate remains higher than death rate. Also the life expectancy is higher for
women than for men.
Another factor which influences population in these two countries is migration. Rising migration is
the main reason for Britain’s and US’s increasing population. Migration lead to multiculturalism and multi-
faith-society in both countries. In the UK there are a lot of different customs in each region and also the are
people who speak not only English, they speak as well as Welsh in Wales or Gaelic in Scotland or Ireland.
Due to immigrants in the UK are spoken languages such German, French, Polish or Spanish. But in the US,
due to a large number of people from Latin America, Spanish is the second most common language. The
immigrants who don’t speak English have difficulty studying or finding a job.
Also because of migration in the UK and in the US there is a diversity of religions. Christianity is the
majority religion in both countries. But in the UK this is followed by Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism
and Buddhism, also among Christians, Anglicans are the most common denomination, followed by the
Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists and Baptists. On other hand a large part of Americans are Protestants,
Catholics and Mormons (the name commonly used to refer to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints).
Only because of population, which come from all over the world, these countries have today such a
diversity of languages, religions and culture.
