I have learned so much over the past four years and I feel prepared to begin my journey as a

novice teacher. I have organized a few goals that I would like to accomplish in the first few years
of my teaching career. These are important because they will allow me to touch on both my
strengths and weaknesses.

Goals:
1. I plan to decorate my classroom as a space that is warm and welcoming for my students. I
would like to make sure that the students are well aware of my expectations on the first day.
This will involve getting to know each one, what they are interested in and how to best
differentiate lessons to best suit their learning needs.
2. Send out a weekly email to parents/guardians! This will include what the plans are and what
students are working on. I love this idea and believe that it increases positive collaboration.
3. Focus on keeping instruction short and include only the most important information. This
means clarifying the instructions and keeping them simple.
4. Find appropriate ways to assess students mastery level.
5. For my final goal, I would like to add new teaching strategies. These might include jigsaw or
reciprocal learning.

To achieve these goals, I must think back to a lesson I taught in my third placement with the
grade fives. This was a lesson on SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and
timely). These goals that I have set for myself are realistic and can easily be kept track of. I will
make adjustments to my goals each year so that I can improve my practice.
