and accurately. Provide your answers individually and do not worry about your results, there is no
wrong answer.
NOTE: Tests are printed both sides. Anyone interested in results or participation in further
research, please give your e-mail address . Thank you for participating in my study.

Study IND-COL/SSMS – prepared by Martyna Wiatr, 2010

The study demonstrates two stories about random people, Text 1 and Text 2. Their
gender is irrelevant for the purpose of this research. Please read carefully both texts.
Your task is to assess person from each story on the dimensions presented below.

Text 1

XYZ is 25 years old. He/she studies and has a temporary job. He/ she lives with
his/her parents in his/her hometown city. He/she has been in relationship for 4 years.
His/her partner is trying to convince him/her to move to a separate flat with her/him.
Unfortunately XYZ prefers rather a big house, since he/she believes, in the future,
ageing parents should live at home with them. What is more XYZ lives in a family
where a well known belief is, that children should live at home with parents, until
they get married. There are another two years, when they plan to get married.
XYZ likes living close to his/her good friends, that is why he/she does not want to
move out from the hometown. What he/she looks for in a job, is a friendly group of
co-workers and he/she has got it now.
XYZ enjoys talking to the neighbours every day. He/she can count on his/her relatives
for help if he/she finds him/her-self in a any kind of trouble.
XYZ spends his/her spare time with friends and his/her second half. They share
passions and they prepare themselves to live together.

Rate the person XYZ on the following dimensions by drawing a circle on

the most suitable (in your opinion) for him/her trait in each line.

Unskilful, untalented 1 2 3 4 5 Skilful, talented

6 7

Next, there is the second story. Please read carefully Text 2.

Text 2

XYZ is 25 years old. She/he is studying and working. She/he rents a flat on her/his
own. She/he is single. XYZ works hard to maintain the flat and gets the first class
degree at the university. She/he does not have a time and will to find her/his second
half. She/he rather prefers to focus on her/him-self. She/he rather appreciates
meeting with the friends than building a relationship.
XYZ thinks, everyone should live one's life independently of others as much as
possible. She/he would rather struggle through a personal problem on her/him own
than discuss it with her/his friends. The most important thing in her/his life is to make
her/him-self happy. She/he cares to perform better than others significantly. XYZ
tends to do her/his own thing and most people in her/his family do the same. She/he
claims one does better working alone than in a group.
XYZ believes when faced with a difficult personal problem it is better to decide
yourself rather than follow the advice of others. What happens to her/him is her/his
own business. If the group is slowing her/him down it is better to leave it and work
alone.
XYZ does not care how her/his country is viewed in the eyes of other nations.
She/he thinks that even if a child is successful parents should not feel honoured in
anyway. The same way she/he claims - children should not feel honoured even if they
parents were praised and given an award by anybody.

Rate the person XYZ on the following dimensions by drawing a circle on

the most suitable (in your opinion) for him/her trait in each line.
