Movement Lesson Reflection 2

The environment in which I gave my lesson was in the preschool classroom made up of

fourteen children. In order to begin the lesson, I gathered all of my students on the carpet before

morning meeting. After the students ate breakfast and brushed their teeth, I directed them to meet

me on the carpet for a new activity. The students were extremely excited to be doing something

new, making it difficult to gain their attention and focus. I then instructed them to make sure they

each had their own bubble (meaning space). The students found it difficult to spread out from

one another, so that they would eventually have enough space to freely move around. Once the

other teachers and myself, were able to maneuver the children around, giving each enough space,

I was able to gain their attention and start the lesson. Once the lesson had started, twelve out of

the fourteen of my students were engaged and actively participating in the activity. The other two

were freely moving around the carpet unengaged.

The part of the lesson I believe went well would be the student’s interest in the activity.

All of the students seemed excited about the activity itself and the vast majority of the students

participated in the lesson. The yoga lesson was highly interactive and I believe the students

enjoyed the fact they were able to actively be involved in the learning experience. The students

were also able to successfully perform the different stretches and poses. I was worried that some

of the students wouldn’t physically able to do a few of the stretches and poses. However, my

students exceeding my expectations and were able to accomplish all of the lessons’ objectives,

without any barriers due to physical reasons.

After I gave my movement lesson, one area that I believe I could have improved on was:

my decision on the location of the lesson. I had decided to give my lesson to the students in the

part of the classroom where they meet for morning circle. Although I believe this was the best

possible place within the classroom, it still did not leave us enough space. While giving the

lesson, I quickly realized that much more space was needed. In order to improve the success of

my lesson, next time I would give it outside on the playground. This would provide the students

much more space so that they would have plenty of room to complete the different movements.
