Observation

During the bioinfusion clinical I observed and learned a lot of things. During this clinical I

learned about picc lines, port access and IV access. I also observed a Rituxan infusion. The nurse

showed me all kinds of different picc lines and explained how each one is used. She also showed

me things like a fake piece of skin which she showed me how to access a port that is placed under

the skin I observed with medications for those patients. The rituxan infusion lasted about 4 hours

and every hour the nurse increased the IV drip a little more. They also gave the patient with the

infusion Benadryl to help him rest during that time. The patient was reviving this IV infusion to

help decrease inflammation that occurs from his arthritis. I saw a lot at bioinfusion.

Objective

During this clinical I saw that the nurses at Bioinfusion demonstrate skill mastery in

delivering Nursing care at the Bioinfusion center. The nurses at this community center had great

experience and were very wise. One of the nurses I was with had worked in 7 different Nursing

settings and was very skillful in the Nursing field. The nurse explained to me every different

metaport, port, picc line, And IV access. The nurses I was with were both very knowledgeable on

everything about the Bioinfusion center. Knowing how to deliver care with any of these is a skilled

kind of Nursing care. A lot of the nursing at this clinical site had intensive care unit experience

and other clinical experience that was more of a skilled Nursing kind of care. These nurses also

are much older, so they have many years of experience and are wise when they are teaching me

about everything they have learned during their lifetime as being a nurse. Bioinfusion makes their

own IV fluids on site which is a very cool thing to watch and it is the only place in the area that

has the skills to do these kind of IV’s. Bioinfusion is a very skilled Nursing care center.

Reflection
 I really enjoyed this Nursing experience and I never knew that there was a place like this in

the small city of Canfield,OH. I learned a lot of information about picc lines, port access and IV

access that I did not know. I watched a nurse insert and IV with ease. I learned about this awesome

resource that is close by which I can now recommend a patient to if the need may ever arise.
