Professor Pedro Reyes Abraham Jr.

•also known as Edru Abraham

•graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in speech and drama &
Master of Arts in art history

•he worked as an instructor in Speech, Theater Arts and Humanities


before he transferred to UP Diliman in 1980.

•Prof. Edru Abraham has participated in various capacities as actor &


director, dancer & choreographer, musician, singer & composer, voice
talent, narrator, announcer & host-presenter, concept-writer &
producer in several hundred productions on stage, film, radio and
television.

•he is a professorial lecturer in the dept. of Art studies of the college of


arts and letters (CAL)

•he is familiar figure in the university of the Philippines in Diliman as


a leader of Kontemporaryong Gamelon Pilipino which he founded in
1989

•began his career as a performing artist with the Filipinescas Dance


Company; he was part of the company as a dancer, musician, and mime
actor from 1965-1971

•1976, started his career as an academic in UP at Los Baños

•1976-1981, served as a choreographer and stage director of "Himig ng


Lahi - The story of the Filipino People in song"
•1982-1983, he joined the UP Filipiniana Dance Troupe

• he is a human rights activist

•1989, formed another troupe called, Alay-ani

• he and K-G were appointed "Ambassadors of Goodwill for Culture and


Arts"

• hailed as a "Most Outstanding Artist in the Performing Art for the


year of 2000" by UP International Award for the Arts

•honored with the title of "Defender of our Cultural Heritage" by


Fookien Times

•His wife, Rebecca, their son Appolo and their daughter Astarte are all
highly regarded and successful performing artists

•his father, Butrous Abraham Fakhri, was one of those intrepid young
men sent away by their families primarily to avoid being conscripted for
war

• is an actor, known for 3rd World Hero (2000), Pagdating sa Dulo


(1971) and I-Witness (1999).

Kontra-gapi
•The Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino is the group strives to
express music and kindred arts from indigenous well springs.
•The word "gamelan" derives from the Javanese "gamel" which means
to hammer where the gamelan consists of percussion instruments such
as gongs and drums.

•Kontra-gapi uses traditional Filipino instruments such as gongs,


drums, woods and metal xylophones, flutes and whistles, assorted
bamboo and their voices.

•The advocacy of Kontra-gapi is bringing back the awareness and


appreciation to the Filipino culture through the ethnic music and dance.
