In this SONA 2016, President Rodrigo Durterte addresses the Philippines enduring
major problems such as corruption, poverty, human rights, global warming, terrorism,
disputes in China and much many more to create a better future for the country. He
assures all will be solved with his will plus a clean corruption-free government. He also
expects every Filipino citizen to be good workers of the country and disciplined even
more. And his goal was to ensure long lasting peace in the Philippines.
He plans to implement programs like the Drug Rehabilitation and the Reserve Officers’
Training Corps (ROTC) programs. Drug rehabilitation basically is the push for a healthy
drug-free sober citizens for a healthy country and better life. And ROTC is a college
program in which students train to become officers in their respective service upon
graduation.
On July 25, 2016 Rodrigo "Rody" Roa Duterte gave his inaugural speech about what he
wishes to do in the Philippines as the newly-elected president. This was to give people
an idea and what they will expect on the Philippines. The Philippines nowadays had
many problems left unscathed. And these were needed to be addressed as soon as
possible to minimize heavy loses. The president started out by telling, “We cannot move
forward if we allow the past to pull us back. Finger-pointing is not the way. That is why I
will not waste precious time dwelling on the sins of the past or blaming those who are
perceived to be responsible for the mess that we are in and suffering from”. He shows
himself as a loyal Filipino willing to give everything he has for the betterment and wants
to keep moving forward instead of dwelling in the past. He states that those betray the
people’s trust shall not go unpunished and therefore will face the consequences. That
those who were left unharmed will be put on court. He expects every Filipino to work to
be a good citizen in order to achieve the best the Philippines will ever have for the
people. He believed that justice should be strengthened in order to clear out drug
pushers, corrupt officials and betrayers due to the increasing numbers of drugs and
corruption. He stood out, expressing his words clearly as if he promises to change the
Philippines. The applause of the audience showed a pleased impression and also rallies
outside cheered and were supportive of President Durterte. No recommendations at all
were needed. The President addressed carefully with every information that needed to
be heard.

-Pursue tax reforms for more efficient tax system that can foster investment and job
creation
-Push Federalism
-Lower personal and corporate income tax rate
-Road works shall be complemented
-Conduct nation-wide soil analysis for the most suitable land for rice farming to optimize
production
-Promote aqua culture on riverbanks
-Revival of the Pasig River is viable
