GHOSTil Workshop

produttore e regista teatrale Riccardo Carollo (Into The Woods,
Truth after murder, Littlestar - Mamma Mia!).

Parks and Cruises, Celebrity, Aida, Costa).

2. Canto (seconda scrematura): Preparare due canzoni Pop/ Rock

Musical Theatre or Contemporary, una up tempo e una ballad
Indicare in
effettuare eventuali esercizi vocali.
dialogo in Audition Scene - preferibilmente a memoria)

Per Molly e Woman 1: With you (vedi taglio in Audition Material)

Per Oda Mea e Woman 2: I am Outta Here (vedi taglio in Audition

Material)

Per Sam, Carl and Man 1: Suspend my disbelief (vedi taglio in

Audition Material)

Scheda ruoli

Molly: Female, 18-35. Vocal range: G3 to Eb5 (pop/rock with strong

belt); Molly is a artist living in New York City with her boyfriend,
Sam Wheat, until he's murdered and his ghost comes back to save
her; definitely a strong actor; able to interact well with Sam and be
convincing when playing the grief-stricken girlfriend; be confident in
transition from in-love to broken-hearted while demonstrating a
deep sense of strength and inner-peace which is disrupted by the
tragic events of the play.

Oda Mae: Female, 25-50. Vocal range: Ab3 to F5 Oda Mae Brown
works as a spiritual advisor out of a storefront séance parlor in
Brooklyn; though she was told as a child that she had "the gift" by
her mother and grandmother (who were both able to communicate
with the dead), Oda Mae did not actually experience communication
with the spirits until she "met" Sam Wheat during a séance for an
unrelated client. Larger-than-life character and able to play for
laughs but still have some sincerity and truthful moments; some
“dancing” required, particularly in solos; however, this can be
portrayed as comedic. African American.

Woman 1 (Molly US/ Ensemble): Female, 18-35. Fantastic Vocalist

(should be able to understudy Molly). Caucasian, African American,
Latino/Hispanic, Asian, South Asian, Native American, Middle
Eastern, Ethnically Ambiguous / Mixed Race, African Descent

Woman 2 (Oda Mae US/ Clara/ Ensemble): Vocal range: C4 to G5

(strong soulful belt); amazing vocalists; one of Oda Mae's helpers at
her séance parlor; comedic part and ideally African American/mixed
race. African American, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, Middle
Eastern, Ethnically Ambiguous / Mixed Race, African Descent
Sam Wheat: Male, 20-35. Vocal range: G# to Bb (Pop/Rock Tenor
with high belt); Sam is the hero of our story, a office-worker in New
York City, living with his long-term girlfriend, Molly; one day Sam is
murdered by Willie Lopez, and as a Ghost he seeks the help of a
reluctant medium, Oda Mae, to protect Molly when Willie plans to
strike again; this character needs to be a strong naturalistic actor
and able to interact well with Molly, especially in the romantic
scenes; needs to be confident in solo lines as the Ghost and have a
New York accent; also needs to be able to move well; should be very
fit.

Carl Brunner: Male, 21-35. Vocal range: Eb3 to A4; Carl Bruner is
the main antagonist of the show and good friend and colleague of
Sam's; when Sam discovers there are discrepancies in some bank
accounts, which actually is a money-laundering operation run by
Carl, he orders his partner, Willie Lopez, to attempt to steal Sam's
security codes, which result in Willie killing Sam; really strong actor
and singer, who is able to play slimy businessman; needs to be able
to transition from aggressive to slimy when seducing Molly; some
physical theater work needed for transitions.

Man 1 (Subway Ghost\ Ensemble): the Subway Ghost helps and

teaches Sam to use his ghostly powers; he also thinks that the trains
are his; aggressive "spooky” but within the realms of truthfulness;
good physical actor required as well as physical character work
experience; experience with rap is helpful.

Those unfinished conversations

We used to have still speak to me
And I write you letters every day
That I'll never send and you'll never see
All this wishful thinking
Gets me nowhere I can't stay
Though my heart is broken
It keeps breaking every day

You took my hopes with you,

Took my dreams with you.

Sam Audition Material: ‘Suspend My Disbelief’

from Original Cast Recording this excerpt begins at 4:44 /pg 106 bar 133

I had a life
I had it all
From such a height, but so far to fall.
You took all I had, torn apart at the seams.
And you’ve taken from me everything I see,
You’ve stolen the dreams.

I had a life, I had it all.

From such a height, so far to fall!
You took all I had!
Torn apart at the seams.
You’ve taken from me everything I see,
You’ve stolen my dreams!

Oda Mae Brown Audition Material: ‘Outta Here!’

from Original Cast Recording begins at 3:22 / other pdf pg 11 bar 110

I’m outta here

I’m flying to Mauritius
I’m outta here
Where the crab cakes are delicious
Far from here
That’s where I find my three gold wishes
Phone in my reservation
For my permanent vacation
I’m outta here
Thank you for Aruba
Outta here
Just let me swim and scuba
Far from here
Just as long as it’s not Cuba
I’m done with the departed
Rest in Peace
Because life just started
Phone in my reservation
‘Cause I’m taking my vacation
Look it’s me I’m walking
Girl you’re not even talking
Talking to me
No more talking to me
Life just started for me.

GHOST THE MUSICAL: Audition Scene.

from Original Cast Recording this excerpt is from ‘Suspend my Disbelief’

and begins at 1:31. It’s the same except there is no Sam in this script.

All boys will read for Carl and all girls will read for Molly.

CARL:
How can you believe some fortune teller from Spanish Harlem who
shows up at your door?

MOLLY:
I sat there and watched, she was talking to him.

CARL:
I don’t buy it, Moll. Not for a minute.

MOLLY:
Carl, she knew things. I know they were true.

CARL:
What kinda things?

MOLLY:
A photo Sam took as we rode the bus to Rino.
We were all alone, just us.
It’s something no one would know!
…And the Starfish at Montego Bay.
Look, she said that Sam knows who killed him.
That he was set up, murdered.

CARL:
This is getting deranged, you're going off the deep end here.

MOLLY:
She had a name, an address, a complete ID!
(she pulls out a piece of paper)
Willie Lopez, 321 Prospect Place, Apartment 4D.
She said Sam wants me to go to the police.

CARL:
The police? Molly- Jesus, what are you gonna tell them?
Some storefront psychic’s been getting messages from the dead?
This woman’s a joke, look at you, you’ve gotta let go!
(He notices she is upset)
Look if it makes you feel any better,
I’ll go check it out, OK?

MOLLY:
Really, Carl? Thank you, I appreciate that.
(Pause)
But I am going to the police.
