Set Induction 1. Teacher brings a dictionary to class.


(5 minutes) 2. Teacher asks pupils what is the function of a dictionary.

Pre-reading 1. Teacher list down the alphabets in alphabetical order.


(15 minutes) 2. Teacher asks pupils for difficult words.
3. Teacher lists down the words on the whiteboard.
4. Teacher shows how the dictionary is used to find words.

While-reading 1. Pupils are divided into groups of five to play the


(20 minutes) dictionary searching game.
2. Teacher gives a list of words for the pupils to find from
the dictionary.
3. Teacher shows the picture on the whiteboard.
4. Pupils write down the definitions on the worksheet.
5. Pupils write down the page number for the words from
the dictionary.
6. Pupils are asked to raise their hands if they had finish
finding the answers.
7. Teacher checks the pupils’ answer.
8. Teacher awards points based on the quickness of the
pupils in searching for the answers.

Post-reading 1. Teacher distributes numbered envelopes with scrambled


(15 minutes) letter cards.
2. Teacher distributes picture cards related to the words.
3. Teacher tells pupils the first letter of the word.

natural disaster with the help of the dictionary.
5. Pupils match the picture to the word.
6. Pupils raise their hand if they have completed the task.
7. Teacher checks the answer and awards points based on
the quickness of the pupils.
8. The activity is repeated with five more different words.

Closure 1. Teacher announces the winning group for the games.


(5 minutes) 2. Teacher asks question about the topic they learnt.
3. Teacher instils moral values about helping others.
