Bridge on Budameru major drain at 44.388 and at Km.

45+020

 The existing bridge details on Budameru major drain are


At Km.44+388 - 15vents of 5.6mts span.
At Km.45+020 – 20v of 3.20mts span
 As per the provisions of contract these two bridge shall be dismantled and reconstructed
with following span arrangements.
At Km.44+388 - 3vents of 19mts span.
At Km.45+020 – 4vents of 19mts span.
Above said span arrangements designed for a discharge of 736.57cumecs (As per DPR
hydraulic particulars)
 During the site inspection of SE ( Irrigation circle) on 14-04-2014 requested to keep the span
arrangements to satisfy the maximum discharge of 1150 cumecs (40594 cusecs) which was
occurred in September 1964, which includes berm flow as per the flood data available with
the Irrigation department. And also requested to provide adequate Box culverts in between
the two bridges to allow berm flow.
 In the CE’s level meeting held on 24-04-2014, it is concluded to revise the bridge span
arrangements as follows
At Km.44+388 - 3vents of 19mts span.
At Km.45+020 – 5vents of 19mts span.
The above span arrangement designed for a discharge of 31305cusecs.
 During the discussions held with Irrigation authorities and GM, APRDC on 16 th &17th of June
2015, irrigation authorities requested to provide additional 6 nos of Box culverts (8m x 5m) in
between the two bridges to cater the berm flow.
 Due to increase in cost the APRDC officials not agreed for the construction of box culverts.
 After the lot of meetings with the Irrigation department it is decided to construct the bridge
with following span arrangements.
At Km.44+388 - 6vents of 10.4mts span. (5v @9.4 m)
At Km.45+020 – 14vents of 10.4mts span. (14v @9.4m)
 Accordingly the Contractor submitted the GAD on 21-02-2018. And the drawings were
approved on 10-09-2018.

The drawings were approved in the month of September 2018. Due to water in the Budameru major
drains in rainy season the Contractor not able to take up the bridge work at Km45+020 until
December 2018. The Contractor prepared the Temporary traffic diversion road in the month of
December 2018. Due to Pethay cyclone alert (from 16-12-2018 to 20-12-2018) the drainage
Department Officials instructed to clear off the diversion road from the drain area for free flow of
flood water. Accordingly the Diversion road was partially removed. After reducing the water in the
drain Temporary traffic diversion road works were commenced and completed in the first week of
January 2019. The Contractor not started the major bridge work at this location due to his own
reasons (Contractor planned to start the bridge work after completion of raft foundation of other
bridge at Km.46+700. Due to delay in start of bridge work, the quantum of work to be executed and
by considering the past Contractor’s performance it is very difficult to complete the bridge with the
proposed extended period.
