SUBJECT: X426 / X430 Compressor Shaft Seals

Thermo King Marine Solutions group has recently received inquiries regarding the correct
compressor shaft seals to be used in Thermo King X430 and X426 marine compressors.

There are two seals available. Please see the following regarding proper use.

If the system is using R-134a (HFC) or blend refrigerants and POE type oils:
The recommended shaft seal for this application is part number 22-1100. The seal is
comprised of a stainless steel bellows design with a bronze faced ring and tungsten / carbide
hard ring for improved leak free reliability when using the new refrigerants and oils.

If the system is using R-12 (CFC) refrigerant and Alkyl Benzene (AB) / Synthetic type oils:
The recommended shaft seal for this application is also the part number 22-1100. However,
the part number 22-778 can be used in its place. The 22-778 seal is comprised of a wire
wound spring, rubber bellows, carbon faced ring and a tool steel hard ring.

NOTE: Use of the 22-778 shaft seal in a system utilizing HFC / Blend refrigerants and POE
oils will shorten the seal life and could cause premature shaft seal failures.
