Nursing Abbreviations
1. Psychiatry
Psychiatry is a special branch of health that involves understanding, assessment,
diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of psychiatric disorders. Psychiatric disorders, on
the other hand, are diseases with effects that impair the ability of emotional, cognitive,
social, and behavioral management.
- My friend called Rona has learned psychiatry in her college for 2 years. She really
wants to be a psichiatrist.

2. HND (High Nursing Dependancy)


HND is a special treatment room for patients requiring intensive and continuous
hemodynamic treatment / follow-up and supervision of drugs that support the patient's
life relationship
- Auzan has treated intensifly in HND room because he got an accident when he was
on going to Semarang city.

3. NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)


NICU is a room or place that use to neonatal intensive care for 28 days. The criteria
that get intensive care is all the babies who have bad condition after born for example
premature condition.
- Last month when I went to hospital, My nephew cared by nurse in NICU because he
was born with premature condition.

4. PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)


The PICU is the section of the hospital that provides sick children with the highest level
of medical care. It differs from other parts of the hospital, like the general medical
floors, in that the PICU allows intensive nursing care and continuous monitoring of
things like heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
- My son has been at the PICU for a couple days, because he got typoid desease after
we got back from Pramuka Island.
5. Psychology
Psychology derived from the Greek word Psychology which is a combination and word
of psyche and logo. Understanding Psychology by Muhibbin Shah (2001), psychology
is a science that studies the behavior of open and closed in humans both as individuals
and groups, in relation to the environment. Open behavior is a behavior that is
psychomotor which includes acts of speaking, sitting, walking and other sebgainya,
while the closed behavior includes thinking, belief, feeling and so forth.

6. TID

abbreviation for "ter in die" which in Latin means three times a day. The abbreviation
"tid" is sometimes written without a period either in lower-case letters as "tid" or in
capital letters as "TID" or with periods as "t.i.d." However it is written, it is one of a
number of hallowed abbreviations of Latin terms that have been traditionally used in
prescriptions to specify the frequency with which medicines should be taken.

7. PO
PO (Per Oral)/Oral administration is a route of administration where a substance is
taken through the mouth. Per os (PO) is sometimes used as an abbreviation for
medication to be taken orally. Many medications are taken orally because they are
intended to have a systemic effect, reaching different parts of the body via the
bloodstream, for example.
- People with diabetes shouldn't be given insulin by orally but by injection, because
the proses of protein breakdown occurs before it reaches the bloodstream.

8. Gynecology
Gynecology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disease and routine physical
care of the reproductive syatem of women.
- The doctor was write in the American Journal Obstetrics and Gynecology
9. Dentistry
Dentistry branch of medicine that consist of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and
treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity, commonly in the
dentition but also the oral mucosa, and of adjacent and related structures and tissues,
particularly in the maxilla of facial area.
- Her brother has studied a dentistry in New Jersey Medical School since two years
ago.

11. Orthopaedics
Orthopaedics is the medical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your
body's musculoskeletal system. This complex system, which includes your bones,
joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves, allows you to move, work, and be
active.
Once devoted to the care of children with spine and limb deformities, orthopaedists
now care for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet to young athletes
requiring arthroscopic surgery to older people with arthritis.

12. Range of motion (or ROM)


Range of motion (or ROM), is the linear or angular distance that a moving object may
normally travel while properly attached to another. It is also called range of travel (or
ROT), particularly when talking about mechanical devices and in mechanical
engineering fields. For example, a sound volume control knob (a rotary fader) may have
a 300° range of travel from the "off" or muted (fully attenuated) position at lower left,
going clockwise to its maximum-loudness position at lower right.
As used in the biomedical and by weightlifters, range of motion refers to the distance
and direction a joint can move between the flexed position and the extended position.
The act of attempting to increase this distance through therapeutic exercises (range of
motion therapy—stretching from flexion to extension for physiological gain) is also
sometimes called range of motion.

13. Radiology
Radiology is a specialty that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases seen
within the body
- In yesterday, I went to radiology room because I took the results of the x-ray test

14. Tuberculosis (TBC)


Tuberculosis (TBC) is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium
tuberculosis (MTB). Tuberculosis generally affects the lungs, but can also affect other
parts of the body.
- My friend had an x-ray and a sputum test to determine the tuberculosis disease

15. Dermatology is the science that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of
diseases of the skin, hair and nails.
- My mom went to the dermatologist because her skin was easily alergic to dust.
