The importance of working on this project with KSPS was not limited to applying what I had Announcements
learned during the MATESL program at Gonzaga University. The main aim of this project was to
design learning guides to make the documentaries more accessible for both teachers and students.
Throughout the procedure of designing the learning guides, I had the chance to scaffold the learning
guides. In other words, I had the chance to practice producing scaffolded materials as I had learned
during my MATESL program.
Potential Audience
Besides KSPS’s audiences who are K-12 teachers in Spokane School District, an additional
audience of this paper is the Saudi teachers. During my teaching experience in Saudi Arabia, I did
not explore lesson planning, nor did I scaffold materials in lesson planning or execution. The
purpose of this paper is to provide Saudi teachers with explanation and examples of lesson planning
as well as scaffolding. I hope this paper will give them an opportunity to observe the benefits as
well as the theory and practice of both lesson planning and scaffolding.

Collaborating with KSPS
Before presenting our partnership between Gonzaga University and KSPS, it is important to know
what the KSPS station is. KSPS is in affiliation with Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). KSPS
Education produces free learning resources for both U.S. and Canadian educators, summer learning Click Here To Submit A
resources, K-12 learning resources and professional development workshops for local teachers. It is Proposal
worth to mention that all learning guides and educational sources on the KSPS website are
reviewed and accepted for publication by PBS. In other words, all the learning guides that were
created for this project are reviewed, accepted for publication by PBS, and available online.
For the purpose of this project, our team, including Bukola Brzezinski, the education director,
Rosemary Colón and I as MATESL graduate students, used documentaries that were produced by
KSPS. The attention of this collaboration started with the initial act of KSPS looking for candidates
with ESL/EFL teaching experiences. R e a d M o r e
