Title: Story Retelling Lesson

Summary: The students will read their guided reading books and write down the events in order. They
will then use the comics head app to create a comic that retells the events of their story.

Learners: My learners are 1st grade students learning about the events in stories and how to retell
them.

Standards:
6b. Students create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new
creations.

RL.1.2. Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or
lesson.

Timeline of activities (Instructional Procedures):

I will assign the guided reading books to each reading group at the beginning of the week. During
reading time I will read each group’s book with them and we will discuss the major events in the story.
I will meet with a group one day during the week. The students will take their books home over the
weekend for extra reading time before we start the project on Monday. On Monday the students will
look through their books and write down the important events that happen. I will then introduce the
comics head app and walk them through how they will use it. The students will have time to create
their own comic strip that depicts the events in their stories. The students will show me their projects
on Friday and retell their story to me as they show me the comic. I will print off their comics, so they
can take them home and use it to tell the story to their family.

Assessment Plan:
I will require the students to show me their final project and retell the story to me using their comic. I
will assess how well they interpreted the important events in the story and how well they can retell
the story using the pictures they created.
