Nurse Educator Philosophy
Introduction:
Teachers, educators, and trainers, in any occupation, assume the role of guiding a large
group of male and female students to move forward in their respective professions and making
the world a better place. The weight of such a responsibility is even greater than actually taking
that particular profession which the teacher is teaching about as a profession. The simple reason
behind this assertion is the massive impact an educator is able to leave on a large number of
people who are going to serve another large number of population throughout their whole career.
The duty of an educator includes shaping the minds of the students and improve their
knowledge, skills, and abilities. While teaching the members of the health and social care the
educator needs to be even more responsible as his or her teaching will have a direct impact on
the lives of the patients the students would treat. As a result, this is exceedingly important that a
certain philosophy is followed by every educator in the health and social care sector which gives
Area of Application:
My plan is to use my abilities and skills as a nursing educator in the psychological health
department. Primality in this division I intend to help the young recruits who are new in the job
and having a very hard time dealing with deadlines other organizational pressure. In most of the
cases, these individuals are shoved into an incredibly high-pressure condition all on a sudden.
Often they do not receive any training, despite optimal outcomes are expected of them which
creates a huge amount of stress and anxiety. Many people under such pressure turn to drugs and
I understand that the psychological arena is quite difficult and very challenging. Each of
the patients with their unique situations creates a more thought-provoking situation and I also
need to be extremely careful about how I perceive their problem, what I tell them and even each
of my body languages would be of significant impact in their lives. Then again helping someone
pulling out of the darkness is very rewarding and I see no other profession that can give me such
satisfaction.
As a nurse educator, my belief is that we, the teachers, possess the power of making the
students interested or uninterested about any subject or topic. For example, a student might have
a 20% interest in one subject and he or she is somewhat motivated to study that subject, as an
educator I can fill up the gaps and help that person finding his or her goal. A similar kind of thing
I, myself have experienced during studies. I saw one of my teachers so dedicated and true to the
cause and student interest, it inspired a great deal. A significant portion of my own philosophy is
motivated and inspired by the teachings of that particular teacher and I believe things that I was
kindergarten years in school very enjoyable. I found a similar perception among my other friends
and classmates as well. Many of them think that that was because of the easy curriculum,
however, my belief is that such a thing could happen because of the pleasant environment our
teacher created for us. So, as a nursing educator, I also intend to give great thought and effort,
particularly in the class environment. The fundamental philosophy would be to create an
environment on the basis of strong communication and mutual respect. I believe that education
can be boring and it is the job of the teachers to make it interesting and actively engage each and
every student in the process. Methods like PowerPoint presentations and lab work can expose the
practicality of each of the topics more clearly to make the process even more interactive and
exciting. Another important aspect is research, which I believe is the strongest instrument to
create knowledge and enhance the ability and skills of the students to function in the real world.
The way research touches the very core of a field, no other instrument cannot. I plan to
improves the knowledge, skills, and abilities of my students and actively prepare them for the
To a student, the educators are like role models who play a tripartite role in the health and
social care sector that directly contribute to strengthening the overall workforce quality of the
sector. Nurse educators who serve in this sector help creating more nurses who will go on serve
hundreds and thousands of people in their need. The educator philosophy that I hold can be
implemented in various division of the same field. Both who will actively pursue nurturing and
who will enrich the literature through research and development. While serving in the nursing
field, every nurse must have in-depth knowledge about medical science as they are expected to
inform and educate patients regarding their treatments. In order to make the recovery process
easy a nurse must keep motivating the patients which require good communication skills. The
duty of a nurse is a noble one and it cannot be just limited to what is mentioned in the job
description.
Being in one of the most important profession in society a nurse must understand the
gravity of the responsibility they take. All these responsibilities come with a great deal of stress
and they are also required to be trained so that they can fight the pressure.
Moreover, they must keep up to date with modern treatments and with the advancement
of medical research and technology. I believe following a strong philosophy would help a nurse
to coup with all these adverse situations. Also as a professional of the health and social care
sector, having a relationship of mutual respect with other nurses or professionals of the similar
field for ensuring better service to the community through organizational efficiency and
effectiveness.
The act of nursing as a profession was discovered a long time ago but it existed in the world
almost from its beginning. The importance of this job was discovered much later. The
significance of nursing came to be gradually. People began to realize the importance of nursing
as time passed by. The unimportant people were often given the job of nursing. Again the nursing
job was not much of ideology back then. The real importance of nursing was showed by Florence
Nightingale. He showed the world how hygiene was an essential part of life and why nursing
was so important. The real concept of nursing was first exposed by him. The continuation of
nursing started at that time. I am really influenced by that historical moment. I realized the true
importance of the job of nursing. Though the job of nursing was of much negligence when it was
followed by knowledge and awareness it became a really crucial part of our life. As the
profession of nursing was mixed with the proper level of education people began to show proper
respect. The profession began to gain immense recognition from people all around them and they
became aware of its importance and necessity. In this modern time, people can easily understand
the immense significance of nursing job. Hereby people have to show the proper level of respect
to the nurses and treat them well along the way. Again the nurses have to follow proper rules and
treat the patient well. The reputation of nursing job increases as modern language EBP and
research are given importance in this sector. Hereby the nurses have to follow modern language
EBP and various related research activities. The nurses have to follow EBP as without following
it properly they cannot treat the patient well and they will eventually fail to provide the proper
level of medication to them along the way. The nurses can avid various complications following
the EBP properly to take care of the patients. Various sectors of nursing such as medication
errors, HAIs, hospital readmission, and other complication can arise and here the nurses have to
follow EBP for avoiding the complication and treat the patient well in a regular manner. Again
there can be various jeopardies in the role of the nurses. Hereby the nurses have to follow proper
rules and regulations for minimizing the jeopardies and help the patient to recover soon
One of the core attributes of every educator requires acquiring some basic competencies
that the students expect to find in their teacher. The students must find the educator competent
and knowledge, otherwise, they will not respect the teacher or anything the teacher teaches and
the whole purpose is defeated. Moreover, apart from knowledge and competencies in the related
filed there are also some characteristics that the educator must possess. One of them is strong
leadership skill and problem-solving skill. To be a role model for the students it is important to
strong sense of ethics and morality. The educator is required to teach them the very essence of
their ethical duties which has to make sure that they always make the right choice even without
the supervision of any sort. In order to make the students understand the heavy duty they are
about to take, the educator must show utmost sincerity in his or her job. They must be taught
about the consequences of mistakes, negligence, and unethical behavior and the educator has to
Conclusion:
Being an educator for nurses and preparing future nurses so that they can serve society in
a very involving manner is a rewarding job itself. It requires some specific skills and a certain
philosophical view to be effective in this job. The job has its own challenges and difficulties as
would have to cultivate the strengths and extract the core competencies of every student while
destroying the negativities. In order to make the future nurses strong and efficient in their work,
the education must be given to them in a way that it is exciting, engaging and produces the most
effective results. I believe a curriculum based on research work is most effective to introduce
them with the practical world. Through research, they will be acquiring practical knowledge and
also they will be able to learn how to solve more practical problems.
