1. Edit the configuration files in /etc/rc.config.d/* that contain the OLD_HOSTNAME (see
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf in particular) and replace it with NEW_HOSTNAME. To find out in which
files the OLD_HOSTNAME is set, grep for it: grep -i OLD_HOSTNAME /etc/rc.config.d/*
2. Edit the following files and replace all occurrences of OLD_HOSTNAME with NEW_HOSTNAME:
/var/adm/inetd.sec /etc/hosts
3. If you are using DNS, make sure you change the hostname-address and address-hostname resolution
on the DNS server.
4. If you are using NIS, change your maps and any other files with the OLD_HOSTNAME.
5. If you are running sendmail, edit the /etc/mail/sendmail.cw and change all occurances of
OLD_HOSTNAME to NEW_HOSTNAME.
/etc/listener.ora
/etc/tnsnames.ora
$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora
7. If you are running a web server, the hostname is probably hard-coded into one of the configuration
files. For the Apache server, the file is usually called httpd.conf. For the Netscape server, they are
usually called magnus.conf and, possibly, ns-admin.conf. You will need to edit the ServerName
entry in each file.
8. If you are using Network Node Manager (NNM), change the hostname on the cell server as follows:
1. Stop NNM (if this does not work, manually kill the ov processes): /opt/OV/bin/ovstop -c
2. Kill the ovlmd process:
3. Use the ps -ef | grep command to ensure that all NNM processes have stopped.
4. Clear the SNMP cache: /opt/OV/bin/xnmsnmpconf -clearCache
5. Delete the ovserver file: rm /var/opt/OV/share/databases/openview/ovwdb/ovserver
6. Modify the following files to ensure that they include the correct hostname:
/etc/opt/OV/share/conf /ovw.auth
/etc/opt/OV/share/conf /ovwdb.auth
/etc/opt/OV/share/conf /ovspmd.auth
/opt/OV/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
9. If you are using Omniback, change the hostname on the cell server as follows:
/etc/opt/omni/cell/cell_server
/etc/opt/omni/cell/cell_info
/etc/opt/omni/users/UserList
/opt/omni/sbin/omnidbutil -show_cell_name
Note: The new hostname is not supplied as an argument to the above command.
It should automatically discover this name.
After you have finished all of the above, reboot your system!!
Notes:
If you have created IGNITE-UX make_recovery tapes with the OLD_HOSTNAME, the hostname will be
incorrect on the tape. You will need to re-create the tapes or change the hostname when restoring the
present tapes by interrupting the install process.
There might be other files that have the hostname hard-coded but you will only find out about them after
you change the hostname. To alleviate any problems, you might want to add an alias to the
NEW_HOSTNAME of the OLD_HOSTNAME.
