How to Make Descriptive Statistics: Tips on Using Microsoft Excel

1. Encode all the scores in the format below:

2. Go to File > Options. The Excel Options appears after clicking.

3. Go to Add-Ins > Click Go…

4. Click or check all, especially the Analysis ToolPak, then click OK.

5. Go to Menu Bar > Data. You will notice that Data Analysis Tool has been added.

6. Click Descriptive Statistics > Ok.

7. Do the following settings. First highlight the data, including the labels. It will create a new worksheet named
“Descriptive_Statistics.”

8. The output looks like this:

9. Fix the final statistics table by removing the redundant labels, e.g. Mean, SD, etc. Then, decrease decimal places.

10. Create a bar graph by highlighting the mean scores and the criteria. Then go to Insert > Recommend Charts

11. Output looks like the one below:
