Professional Disposition Statement

All students can learn if they are provided with a safe, encouraging and nurturing

environment. A teacher sets the tone for their classroom, and they must be willing to invest time

getting to know each student on a personal level, so they know how to meet their individual

learning needs. They also need to make a personal connection to their students, so the students

feel comfortable, respected, supported, and motivated to learn. Teachers should have good,

professional work ethics and integrity so that they can be a role model to their students,

coworkers, and the community. They should be punctual, reliable, and prepared every day.

Teachers should have good communication skills and be personable and approachable, so their

students and coworkers know they are trustworthy, and they feel comfortable coming to them. It

is important for them to be student focused and be dedicated to being a lifelong learner so that

they can be prepared for the constantly changing world we live in. I believe that being allowed to

educate and influence the young minds of tomorrow’s leaders is a great privilege, and we should

work hard to give every student our best, so we can prepare them to be successful and productive

citizens.

My self-assessment supports my statement because it shows the importance I place on

professionalism and student focus. It supports my belief that all students can learn if they are

provided with the right strategies in a safe and nurturing environment. It reflects the importance I

place on personally investing in the lives of my students and the community in order to find the

most effective ways to teach my students. The assessment also confirms my desire to participate

in professional development and my willingness to receive feedback and adjust to meet the

constantly changing demands of the teaching profession and be the best teacher I can be.

One of the greatest areas I feel I have grown in my program of study is in the awareness

and respect for cultural diversity in the classroom and community. I had never realized what a

profound effect diversity in the classroom and school could have until I took the Social Justice

for Educators class. That class taught me to be more aware of cultural identifiers and how to

appreciate diversity and be a model and teacher of acceptance and respect for the students in my

classroom. Because of that class, I feel I will be more prepared to create a trusting learning

community within our classroom where students respect and advocate for one another. That class

was one of the most beneficial I have taken, and it will make me a much better role model and

teacher to everyone I come in contact with in the school environment.

Every person has room for improvement, no matter how long they have been teaching, so

continuing to seek professional development opportunities is important to me. I know I would

like to become more technology savvy in the classroom, and I would also like to learn to better

incorporate cross curricular activities into my lessons because I feel there is a movement for all

schools in our area to become STEM certified. This is very beneficial to the students and will

help them to become more college and career ready. I also plan to continue to seek feedback and

advice from veteran teachers and administrators who can help me grow in the teaching

profession.
