 Introduction to Synchronizing Circuit
 Conditions for Synchronization of Hydraulic cylinders
 Methods of Synchronization
 Area, Pressure and Load in Synchronization of Cylinder
Introduction

Synchronized drive of executive devices is utilized in many machinery

equipments. Synchronization of two hydraulic cylinder is similar to sequencing of
two cylinders without using sequencing valves and is synchronized with the help of
a Direction Control Value.

Advantages
 Simple structures,
 Convenient composition,
 Speedy automation, and
 Available to large power.
Conditions for Synchronization of Hydraulic cylinders

 The two cylinders should be connected in series.

 The cylinders should be identical.

 The loads on cylinders should be same.

 The annular area of the rod end of the one cylinder should be equal to the

area of the piston at the cap end of the other cylinders.

 The pump used in the circuit should be capable of delivering a pressure

equal to that required by a cylinder to cover the loads of both the Cylinders.
Methods of Synchronization
There are many ways to achieve Multi-cylinder synchronization movement, and
they are different according to the way of classification.

According to the principle of synchronization

Mechanical control synchronization, Flow control synchronization, and Volume control
synchronization
According to the connection type of the hydraulic cylinder
Unidirectional and Bidirectional synchronous control
According to the feedback of the output
Open loop control and Close-loop control
Methods of Synchronization

Series Connection Parallel Connection

Series Synchronization

 Cylinders connected in Series.

 For two cylinder to be synchronized.

 Piston Area of Cyl 2 = Piston Area of Cyl 1-Rod area.

Parallel Synchronization

 Cylinders connected in parallel.

 Loads identical – Moves in exact synchronization.

Area, Pressure and Load in Synchronization of Cylinder

Let Ap1 and AR1 be the effective areas of head end cap end of the Cylinder1
respectively and F1 be the load on the Cylinder1
Similarly, let Ap2 and AR2 be the effective areas of head end cap end of the Cylinder1
respectively and F2 be the load on the Cylinder2
For Cylinder 1
P1AP1-P2(AP1-AR1) = F1 -----1

For Cylinder 1
P2 AP2-P3(AP2-AR2) = F2 -----2

But (AP1-AR1) = AP2 (one of the condition of synchronization)

Therefore equation 1 will become
P1AP1-P2 AP2 = F1 ----3
Since the rod of the cylinder 2 is connected to drain its pressure should be zero.
Therefore equation 2 will become
P2 AP2 = F2 ----4
Adding Equations 3 and 4
P1AP1 = F1 + F2
Applications of Synchronization

 Shipping lock,
 Reservoir dam,
 It can controlling on and off of the hydraulic gate by duplex synchronous
movement.
 Assembly line application. Etc…
