What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear the word

competition? Is it good or bad? Is it healthy or unhealthy? I believe that competition is

certainly healthy. Competition is something that everyone has in his or her life. Without

competition, we will not be who we are today. Competition in life starts as early as when we

were a kid and there is no full stop to it. Apparently, without a shadow of doubt, we need to

be competitive in life to accomplish our goals and be what we want to be. Michael Jordan,

the world renowned basketball player even said that “You have competition every day

because you set such high standards for yourself that you have to go out every day and live

up to that.” Hence, without competition, there would be no standards and we would not know

how to improve on areas we lack. Thus, it is as clear as crystal that, competition brings us lots

of benefits.

First and foremost, competition enhances growth and creativity. Why do I say so?

Being competitive in certain aspects drives us towards progress in life. For instance, without

competition, companies or organisations will not be keen in improving their products. They

can just be in their comfort zones and be satisfied with what they have produced. However to

compete with other companies and organisations, they start to generate more innovate ideas,

sharpen R&D as well as improved services in order to produce the best products. It is also

about exploring new ideas and untested tests. Thus, being competitive motivates these

companies and organisations to work harder and reap the sweet fruits of success and in the

long run it is all about achievements in life. Undoubtedly, competition enhances growth and

creativity which leads to attainment in life.

Apart from that, being competitive helps us to gain our confidence and build up our

self-esteem. It is a norm in our lives that, we need to go through a stage in life where some

competition is indispensable for the growth of self-esteem. We should not deny that fact that,

competition is what makes us to strive better in life. How can we actually improve if there is

no competition? We may not know what is our capacity or where do we stand without

competitors. It is competition that drives us to bring out the best in us and to do the best to

wipe out others. Furthermore, we build our self-esteem and become even more confident

when achievement is in our grasp especially through competitions. This is mainly because we

are able to prove to others that we have the capability and capacity in attainting success. In

other words, being competitive pushes us beyond our limit and boosts our confidence.

Additionally, being competitive steers us towards achieving goals in life. It definitely

makes it easier for us to conquer the goals that we have set for ourselves in life. It is common

that everyone has their respective dreams as well as goals to be attained in life. Why having

goals is important? Goals undeniably help us to maintain our focus and keep us uplifted. In

other words aids us to develop our knowledge and help us realize our aims. However, we

need to bear in mind that to accomplish all these, competition plays an extremely vast role.

Competition pushes us to work hard and lead us towards what we target to achieve. Thus,

having competitors around us will make sure that we are not left behind or defeated by them.

Indisputably, competition is one of the factors in helping us to achieve our goals in life.

What is more? Being competitive also helps us to be disciplined and commitment in

life. It is a very vital ingredient for success, any form of success. In fact, it is one of the most

significant pillars of real and stable success. There is a saying that “Successful people do the

things that unsuccessful people don’t want to do. That is why they are successful.” This

implies that, in order to be successful in life we need to have commitment in life and this will
be very objective if there is the competitiveness in us. With this, we will be disciplined in

terms of training, punctuality, time management as well rules and regulations. It is clear that,

being competitive helps us to accomplish anything or even epic feats which in turns make us

more disciplined and committed in our work. This is also well supported by the saying quoted

by Theodore Roosevelt that “With self-discipline, most anything is possible!”

As to sum up, competitions if life is unquestionably essential and there is no way that

we can escape from being competitive. Being competitive has been a part and parcel in our

lives and will always be. Always look at the brighter side of being competitive and enjoy the

benefits that it offers to us.
