Application 1:
Description of Concept: Deep Acquisition-
The period for students to assimilate knowledge, especially through integration with existing
knowledge. Adds to self-regulated understanding to correct thinking that could have been
previously erroneous.

Application to your work/learning:


As a teacher, I desire to give students an opportunity to have a deeper understanding of their
learning. Deep acquisition is part of students developing self-sufficiency and responsibility in
their understanding.
Application 2:
Description of Concept: Discussion and Questioning-
Allows for students to discuss concepts that may have been challenging are unclear. A teacher
could monitor student discussions to assess understanding.
Application to your work/learning
Discussion and questioning is a valuable tool for EL learners. When EL learners are able to
interact with native speakers, each party can better assess understanding and grow in the
social aspects of literacy.
Application 3:
Description of Concept: Self-Questioning-
A student is monitoring their own understanding by being a “detective” for their reading. A
student questions their understanding to have a deeper learning experience- making sure they
are comprehending their reading.
Application to your work/learning
This method also adds to self-regulation as students grow in questioning their own
understanding. They are able to monitor their learning.
