This is further to your E-mail and corrections given in friction slab.

The road
cruct layer above the fricion slab is without reinforcement but will have shear
resistance. The contribution of the same is considered in this design note.

Design of friction slab

Design Bending Moment as per IRC 6 clause 207.1.3

Bending moment to be resisted = 100 kN-m/m
This bending moment is produced by a 30Tonne vehicle. As per IRC 6, the minimum
Weight of 30R axle is 4Tonnes or

Check for Sliding

Sliding force

The vehicle hits barrier at a speed of 60 kMph with an angleof 20 degree

Speed of vehicle before hitting = 60 kmph

= 16.67 m/s

Since the vehicle hits the barrier at 20 degrees which is an acute angle, the speed of
vehicle will die down but certainly it will not be zero.

Assuming that the vehicle loses its speed by 50 % in 1 second

Speed of vehicle after hitting = 30 kmph

= 8.33 m/s

De acceleration = v1 - v2
t

= 8.33 m/s2

Impact force of the vehicle = m a

m = 30000 kg
a = 8.33 m/s2

Force = 250.00 kN
This force is applied at 20 degrees = 85.51 kN

Total sliding force = 86 kN

Resisiting force
Vehicle
Total vertical load = 182.4 kN
Since the friction slab is sandwitched in between top and bottom
of road crust, the friction will be mobilized at both the faces

Friction at top
Resiting force at Bottom of slab mR

Bottom Frictional force = mR mR

m = tan ( 2 f) Friction at Bottom
3
f = 35.0
m = 0.43

mR = 78.67 kN

Resiting force at Top of slab

The road crust above friction slab is very compact and has shear resistance
This shear resistance will offer resistance

S = C + s tan f
S = Shear resistance of road crust

C = Cohesion of road crust = 5 kN/m2

f = Angle of friction = 35
s = vertical pressure on slab
= 127.4
7.65
= 16.650 kN/m2

S = 5 + 11.659
= 16.659 kN/m2

Force resisted = S x A

A = 4.5 x 1.7
= 7.65

Force resisted = 16.659 x 7.65

= 127.4389 kN

Total resisting force = 78.67 + 127.44

= 206.11 kN
FOS = 206.11 = 2.41 > 1.5 OK
